RISC-V new achievement, Deepin successfully adapted to LicheePi 4A development board

The Deepin development team announced that after self-adapting VisionFive 1, VisionFive 2, SG2042 and other development boards, deepin RISC-V SIG has recently made a new breakthrough in promoting the RISC-V ecosystem: the deepin operating system has successfully adapted to the LicheePi 4A development board .

According to the introduction, LicheePi 4A is a Linux development board designed by Silicon Speed Technology that uses TH1520 chip as the main control core. It is the most powerful RISC-V SBC so far (2023Q2).

LicheePi 4A contains 4 black iron C910 CPU cores, onboard up to 16GB 64bit LPDDR4X, 128GB eMMC, supports rich peripherals, including dual Gigabit network interface, USB 3.0 interface, HDMI+MIPI display output, etc. These rich hardware features make LicheePi 4A a powerful and flexible development platform to meet the needs of various application scenarios.

The image of deepin for the LicheePi 4A development board has been released and can be downloaded for trial. This image is based on the latest deepin v23 beta version, made by the RISC-V branch of deepin-ports, using the kernel adapted from revyos for LicheePi 4A. Adapted and tested by RISC-V SIG, the wired network, wireless network, USB interface, HDMI output, etc. can be used normally, and the DDE desktop environment is running normally.

This image adopts the latest achievements of the adaptation work, and is equipped with basic functions such as DDE desktop environment and browser. After testing, it can meet the daily office and development work, and can obtain rich adapted RISC-V through the package manager. software resources.

DDE is a complete desktop environment implemented by the deepin development team. The front-end desktop components are developed using Qt and Dtk, and the back-end is developed using C++/golang. It implements many user-mode services and session managers, and the support of many upper-level application software is more abundant. Opened the RISC-V software ecosystem.

List of pre-installed software

  • system basis
    • sudo、neofetch、networkmanager 等
  • desktop environment
    • dde, lightdm, etc.
  • desktop experience
    • deepin-movie、deepin-terminal、deepin-diskmanager、dde-introduction、firefox 等
  • Utilities
    • neofetch、tmux、vim、bash-completion 等
  • kernel
    • linux-5.10.113-lpi4a (from revyos' revyos-kernel repository)

Note: Due to the limitation of board storage size, there are not too many applications installed in the image. If you want to experience other applications, please use apt to install them online.

Of course, there are also some known problems . Since the Imagination driver of LicheePi 4A has not been completely open sourced, llvmpipe is used as a software alternative for rendering, so some desktop effects are temporarily unavailable. deepin will continue to pay attention to and follow up the progress of related graphics driver open source and mainline mergers, and update the image in due course. In addition, the main line of RISC-V branch merging is also in the work plan and will be gradually launched in the future.

At present, the adaptation work of LicheePi 4A is being fully advanced. We will also improve the relevant basic support, fix bugs, and further improve the stability of operation. At the same time, we will continue to develop more new functions and follow up the latest developments of RISC-V. With the release of new products, deepin will adapt to more RISC-V architecture devices in the future.
