5G-A continues to advance, towards the 6G standard | UNISOC participates in the 5G-A R19 project establishment seminar of China Communications Standards Association

Recently, Ziguang Zhanrui was invited to participate in the 5G-Advanced ("5G-A") R19 project establishment seminar hosted by China Communications Standards Association (CCSA) and undertaken by ZTE, and had discussions with well-known operators, equipment manufacturers, terminals and chips in the industry. In March this year, the RAN Timeline of R19 was approved, and R19 officially set sail. The purpose of this conference is to enhance the industry's understanding of the potential direction and significance of R19, and to better promote the bidding of projects with actual landing value. A total of 23 communication standard experts from the four major domestic operators, multiple equipment, terminal and chip manufacturers at home and abroad delivered a keynote speech for R19, expounding the views of R19 from the dimensions of motivation, value, potential benefits, and technical complexity. UNISOC comprehensively demonstrated and shared its R19-oriented project proposals and technical trends from the perspective of terminal chips.

For R19, the industry generally believes that it will affect the commercial process of 5G-A. Not only that, in the context of the global 6G research enthusiasm continues to rise, R19 will likely usher in 6G standard research. At present, the mainstream opinion in the industry believes that the evolution of R19 can be roughly divided into three directions:

1. Existing function enhancements: such as MIMO enhancements, coverage enhancements, multi-carrier and mobility enhancements, etc., to further enhance the capabilities and efficiency of mobile communication networks.

2. Application scenario expansion: such as multicast broadcast enhancement, environmental IoT, XR, Sidelink/Sidelink Relay enhancement, positioning enhancement, NTN enhancement, etc., to further expand the services supported by the communication system and better serve all walks of life.

3. Forward-looking research: such as artificial intelligence (AI), integrated communication perception (ISAC), full-duplex, intelligent reflective surface (RIS), etc., carry out forward-looking research on potential 6G technologies, and provide technical research for future evolution to 6G bedding.

Ziguang Zhanrui conveyed the development thinking and technical project establishment views on the above-mentioned mainstream directions. At the seminar, it also proposed terminal hot backup and uplink MBMS project proposals for smart grid differential protection scenarios, aiming to improve transmission efficiency in industrial and IoT scenarios. Reliability, to solve the pain point needs of vertical industry partners.
