The experience of finding a job after coming out of the software testing training class taught me these five things...

I am not a computer major. I am eager to get a job because of my poor major. After some failed work experiences, I went to participate in training and entered the IT industry.

Before signing up to study software testing, I was also very entangled, and I didn't know how to choose an institution. Later, I saw some students sharing their learning experiences on Zhihu, which helped me a lot at that time. I have been working for more than half a year now, my salary is 16K, and I am located in Hangzhou. I hope to share some of my real situation and give you a reference.

Now I often answer the following questions on Zhihu:

There are two main ways to change careers as a test engineer: self-study and training.

There is nothing to say about self-taught, except to be convinced. Today I will talk about how test practitioners who come out of training institutions find a job.

Confusion 1: The tuition fees for training courses are high?

offline

1) Tuition fees. One-time payment of teaching fees, or bank installment payment, is about 1.6W to 2.3W, and different institutions will vary in different places.

2) Board and lodging expenses. Generally, it is self-care, and the accommodation fee is 600 yuan. The living expenses are calculated as the girls’ consumption of breakfast, lunch and dinner. The total cost is 70 yuan. If the study period is 4 months, the total cost is about 10,500 yuan. Not counting other hidden expenses.

on-line

The online ones also depend on the type, and the recording and broadcasting are completely unnecessary and useless; there are teachers answering questions and formulating study plans, and the live broadcast is less than 10,000.

That's all I've said, you can figure it out, if you have money, please ignore me. I'm poor

Confusion 2: Can the technology learned be used?

After learning, I learned test theory, network knowledge, database, test tools, automation, project practice, resume writing, and mock interviews. About less than 3 months to complete. We teach in small classes with 30 people in a class. Most of them are not majors in computer science, including junior college, undergraduate, and graduate students. There are also java development and embedded registration learning. The learning process is very difficult, and it is crammed. I feel that the college entrance examination is the same back then, but the mood is really different. After being beaten by the society, I want to study well and find a stable job from the bottom of my heart.

The institution I studied in is actually aimed at intermediate and senior test engineers. The courseware feels similar to that on the Internet. The difference is that there are teachers who will take you, explain the details to you, and extend it to you, which is more systematic. And the most important thing is to have real projects to practice. We have done e-commerce projects, Internet medical projects, and financial projects. This is different from my actual work now, that is, the projects are different, and the process is basically the same. So now it's pretty easy to get used to.

Confusion 3: Can the software testing training continue?

First of all, the conclusion is that software testing training can continue.

Some friends who want to enter the IT industry may hear news that it is difficult to find a job after the training class, and some companies do not train employees when recruiting, etc. Some people say that training software testing through training institutions is Learn some basic knowledge, employment skills are far from the company's recruitment standards, so I am worried about whether I can continue to work after software testing training.

It is undeniable that there are indeed some students who chose training institutions or did not study hard when they participated in the training, resulting in mediocre abilities and poor skills after a few months of training. These trainees often only learn some superficiality and don't go deeper. Such testers are obviously not needed by any enterprise.

However, more small partners with training backgrounds are qualified through hard work, and their abilities are capable of meeting the recruitment needs of major companies.

Puzzle 4: Enterprises are unwilling to ask workers from training institutions

There is nothing strange about this. It’s like some companies recruiting people who clearly must have a bachelor’s degree. Are there any outstanding candidates who don’t have a bachelor’s degree? Of course there are, and there are even very powerful ones. However, considering the time cost, it is enough for the average ability of undergraduate graduates to be higher than the average ability of college graduates. This crude recruitment method is essentially to improve the efficiency of resume screening and save time and cost.

Those students who have learned well and are trained with real skills don’t have to be so depressed. You have to believe that as long as you are really capable, companies are still rushing to get you. It may be more difficult than ordinary people, but you can do it anyway. Finding a good job takes a long time, and that's about it.

Confusion 5: Interview to find a job

There is also a feeling during the interview that this industry is very rigid about academic qualifications. Big companies say they don’t value academic qualifications, but they all require a bachelor’s degree if they want to enter Tencent and Youzan. Therefore, students with average academic qualifications should ask the teacher for consideration. , We all find jobs by ourselves after graduation. The undergraduates in our class basically found a job within a week, and it was a little more difficult for the junior college students.

Employment here involves the operation of the institution. I feel that this is the key, and part of the tuition fee is worth it. . . . When we graduated, two employment teachers connected with us and packaged resumes for us, and then basically packaged them for 2 to 4 years, which was really unacceptable at first. Thinking back now, I suggest not to pack too much, and someone in our class will be dismissed

Then the teacher gave us mock interviews, real one-on-one, and only after passing the interview with them can we go out to find a job.

Then give us a database, I rely on, collected interview questions from more than 100 companies in Shenzhen, and then sorted out some frequently asked questions, how to answer the reason for leaving, how to negotiate salary, etc.

Then it is recommended to some companies that we cooperate with to help everyone get a job. The recruitment is very fast, and some students pass it every day.

Those who are a little bit younger will be asked to pack their academic qualifications, and their resumes will be written as if they have just graduated, and then they will also submit their resumes for an interview with a bachelor’s degree. To be honest, there is no packaging, and there are no interview calls. What the employment teacher said is to interview first , After passing the interview, tell the personnel about your real academic qualifications. If you have a different major, you can say that you were interested in computers during college, and you have been studying computers.

Finally, let's sum it up.

As a tester, the most important thing is your learning ability and technical level, heroes don’t need to ask where they come from

It doesn't matter whether you are from New Oriental or from other training courses.

If you are trained, since you have chosen a path, stick to it. It may be a bit bumpy at the beginning, so don't care too much about what people think of you.

I also hope that everyone who is a veteran of the test will be more tolerant of those rookies who participate in training and work hard to make progress. If it is not forced by life, who is willing to spend tens of thousands of dollars for training, and at the same time have no income for several months.

For those friends who want to change careers as test engineers, I would like to say:

Want to change careers as a test engineer through training, have you really thought about it? I suggest that you can understand this situation

Take it easy at the end. I hope you don't just find a training institution, wasting time and money, and don't become a joke on the Internet:

It took me 5 months and 30,000 yuan to train software testing. I received an offer from Meituan just two weeks after the training. I admit that I am not the best student in the class, but I am the first in the class to find a job, and I am also a big factory. I have always believed that hard work can make up for one's weakness, as long as there is determination, anything is possible. I have been working for a week today, and the people in the company are very kind to me. They even equipped me with an electric car, a helmet, and a coat. Not to mention, I am going to deliver food again.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone who has read my article carefully. Reciprocity is always necessary. Although it is not a very valuable thing, you can take it away if you need it:

These materials should be the most comprehensive and complete preparation warehouse for [software testing] friends. This warehouse has also accompanied tens of thousands of test engineers through the most difficult journey. I hope it can help you too!
