1. Windows 11 system requirements

System Requirements System Requirements These are the minimum system requirements for installing Windows 11 on your PC. If your device does not meet these requirements, you may not be able to install Windows 11 on your device and we recommend that you consider purchasing a new computer . If you're not sure if your PC meets these requirements, you can check with your original equipment manufacturer (OEM); if your device is already running Windows 10, you can use the PC Health Check app to assess compatibility. Note that this app does not check for graphics cards or monitors, as most compatible devices meet the requirements (sysin) listed below. Your device must have Windows 10 version 2004 or later installed to be able to upgrade. Free updates are available in the Windows Update feature in 'Settings > Update & Security'.

PC Health Check Internet Connection and Microsoft Account	Windows 11 Home requires an internet connection and a Microsoft account . All editions of Windows 11 require an internet connection to perform updates, and to download and take advantage of certain features. Some features require a Microsoft account.

Certain features require specific hardware support . Some applications may have higher system requirements than the minimum device specifications for Windows 11. Check the compatibility of the device with the application you want to install. Required device storage will vary based on actual applications and updates. Higher-end, more powerful computers also have higher performance. Additional requirements may apply in the future or in updates.

These are the official system requirements for Windows 11.

The key is this TPM chip, usually in a virtual machine, MacBook, old PC without TPM or without TPM 2.0 cannot install Windows 11 normally (the error is shown in the figure below).

2. Common methods on the Internet

(1) Modify the registry (Boot Camp is not supported)

On the Windows 11 installation interface, press Shift + F10 to open the command line interface, and execute the following command:

REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\Setup\LabConfig /v BypassTPMCheck /t REG_DWORD /d 1
REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\Setup\LabConfig /v BypassSecureBootCheck /t REG_DWORD /d 1

Or use the GUI Registry Editor to add:

Enter regedit to enter the Registry Editor, then navigate to the following location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup, create an item named "LabConfig", and then create two DWORD values under "LabConfig":

Key name "BypassTPMCheck", assigned value "00000001"

Key name "BypassSecureBootCheck", assigned value "00000001"

After saving and exiting, the prompt that cannot be installed disappears.

Advantages: No need to modify the ISO file, the original version will do.

Disadvantages: The operation is a bit cumbersome and not easy to remember. And it does not support the Boot Camp installation method on Mac.

(2) Replacement file: appraiserres.dll (invalid)

Replace appraiserres.dll (under the sources folder) in Windows 10 ISO with the file with the same name in Windows 11 ISO or directly delete the dll file in Windows 11 ISO.

The above method has been tested not valid in the current version (November 2021) and may require a specific version match.

Some readers shared: Create a new blank file named appraiserres.dll to replace the file with the same name in Windows 11 ISO. Also tested to be invalid (updated Feb 2022).

(3) Add vTPM (cumbersome, virtualization only)

Please check it yourself, no more details.

(4) Modify the WIM image attribute to Server

Many third-party scripts and gadgets use this method, similar to the following operations:

Modify the image-property of install.wim under the sources folder in Windows 11 ISO to Server through wimlib (the open source Windows Imaging (WIM) library), and TPM detection will not be required .

If you have downloaded the ISO image of Windows 11, double-click Quick_11_iso_esd_wim_TPM_toggle.bat

Then right-click the ISO file of Windows 11, and click the menu "Send to (N) > Quick_11_iso_esd_wim_TPM_toggle.bat" to avoid TPM patch successfully.

Double-click Quick_11_iso_esd_wim_TPM_toggle.bat again to remove the above items in the right-click menu.

The script actually changes the WIM image attribute to Server to bypass TPM detection.

This image still does not support the Boot Camp installation method on the Mac.

Some third-party scripts also use this method. After testing the virtual machine installation, an error is reported, which is unknown. Boot Camp should not support it, so it will not be verified.

(5) Rufus creates a USB boot disk

Rufus v3.19+ creates a USB boot disk, adding a new function to bypass TPM detection, which is quite convenient.

(6) install.wim replace

Use the Windows 10 installation medium, delete the install.wim in it, replace it with the install.wim in the Windows 11 installation medium and rename it to install.esd (the name change is only for the sake of distinction, and the original file name can also be replaced).

This method creates a distributable ISO file, which may be the best solution. An iso file can solve the three problems at the beginning of the article, and it is considered a general method. The following describes the operation steps in detail.

3. General method: replace install.wim

Windows 11 iso files created using the following methods can be installed directly in:

Virtual machine installation: including but not limited to VMware, KVM and Hyper-V, etc. (sysin)
Install Windows 11 on Boot Camp on Mac, just like installing Windows 10 , note that only Intel processor models (not applicable to Mac computers equipped with Apple chips )
Install Windows 11 directly on an old PC, as long as Windows 10 can be installed originally, there is no TPM chip, or only the version of TPM 1.2.

Download the original ISO images of Windows 10 and Windows 11 respectively.

Open the Windows 11 ISO file, extract install.wim under the sources folder, and rename install.wim to instsall.esd for backup. In fact, there is no need to change the name, just use install.wim to replace it directly. It is just that the network transfer needs to be renamed. The advantage is that it is easy to distinguish from the original image after the name change.

Use ISO editing software (such as UltraISO, WinISO, PowerISO) to edit the ISO file of Windows 10, delete the install.wim under the sources folder, then add the install.esd of Windows 11 to this folder, save (save as) the ISO file That's it.

Some articles said to use the following command to convert wim to esd format, but this operation is not used in this example, and the image is fully usable.
dism /Export-Image /SourceImageFile:C:\Windows11\install.wim  /SourceIndex:INDEX /DestinationImageFile:E:\Downloads\OSes\install.esd  /Compress:recovery /CheckIntegrity

Double-clicking the setup directly in Windows will prompt the following, yes, the Windows 10 installer installs the Windows 11 image. In fact, using ISO or USB to boot the installation is only different from the startup Logo, such as the first picture, the window of Windows 11 is square.

4. CPU limit

Among the Windows 11 system requirements, memory, storage, display, and network links are usually easy to meet. The method and image in this article are mainly to bypass the restrictions of TPM and UEFI secure boot , but the CPU still needs to meet the hard requirements, see the links in the table below for details.

If upgrading and installing Windows 11 does not meet the system requirements, open a command prompt and execute the following command:

REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\Setup\MoSetup /v AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU /t REG_DWORD /d 1

Then restart the system and perform the upgrade installation again to burn through the TPM and CPU limits.
