Announcing Android™ Apps on Windows 11 Preview for Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel

The store homepage highlights the Amazon Appstore.

Announced today (2021-10-20) the first preview of the Android™ app for Windows 11 is now available in the Beta channel for Windows Insiders in the US, if you haven't read this blog post from Giorgio Sardo , please Read it first, as it highlights the overall experience with Android apps on Windows 11.

Our focus right now is to provide the first previews of the now-released Windows 11 builds in the US Beta Channel (Windows 11 Build 22000.xxx series). Matching what's released to the public (sysin), there won't be an Android app preview on Windows 11 today. We know Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel are excited to try out Android apps on Windows 11, and we plan to give them previews in the future.

getting Started

start:

  1. Your PC needs to be running Windows 11 (Build 22000.xxx series) and meet these hardware requirements. (The official version of Windows 11 downloaded from this site can meet the system requirements)
  2. You may need to enable virtualization for your PC's BIOS/UEFI. Click here for a guide on how to enable this feature on your PC.
  3. Make sure you're running Microsoft Store version 22110.1402.6.0 or later. You can check for updates to the store by going to your library and clicking the "Get Updates" button.
  4. Your computer's region must be set to United States. (Amazon Appstore on Windows is currently only available in the United States, download and install offline at the end of the article, this setting is not required)
  5. Your PC must be in the Beta channel (sysin). If you're not in the Windows Insider Program, click here to get started and enroll your PC in the beta channel. (Download offline installation at the end of the article, no need for this requirement)
  6. You also need a US Amazon account to use the Amazon Appstore. (Apk can also be installed offline without an account)

After that, just click here to go to the Microsoft Store and it will walk you through the steps of verifying that your device meets the minimum system requirements, setting up the environment, and discovering new Android apps and games instantly.

The Microsoft Store will silently and automatically install Windows Subsystem for Android in the background when either of the following two user actions are performed:

  • Install the Amazon Appstore from the Microsoft Store. Selecting "Get" will start installing the app.
  • The first time you install an Android app from the Microsoft Store, this will also install the Amazon Appstore.

The new component that powers Android apps on Windows 11 through the Amazon Appstore is called the Windows Subsystem for Android™, and you'll see it listed under the Start menu where you can tweak specific settings for the experience . Today's release of Windows Subsystem for Android™ is version 1.7.32815.0. Updates to the Windows Subsystem for Android™ will be automatically available through the Microsoft Store. If the PC needs to be restarted, the Amazon Appstore will launch automatically after the restart, or you can launch it from the Start menu.
