"Made in China 2025" proposes to vigorously promote the transformation from a manufacturing power to a manufacturing power. The rise of cloud computing, big data, artificial intelligence, etc. is promoting the digital and intelligent transformation of the manufacturing industry.

 
Regarding the definition of digital transformation, different companies or organizations have different focuses. Consulting companies put more emphasis on overall strategy, and technology companies put more emphasis on technology .


From the perspective of digital technology , the digital transformation of the manufacturing industry refers to the application of new-generation information technology to the design, production, management, sales and service links of manufacturing enterprises, and the ability to control, monitor, detect, predict and other production and operation activities based on data analysis and mining generated in each link.


The digital transformation of the manufacturing industry emphasizes two points: first, the entire life cycle of the manufacturing industry is covered by a new generation of information technology , which can not only transform various business links with advanced technology, but also promote the digitalization of the entire process as much as possible; second, various activities and operation management activities in the industrial chain can use data analysis to empower decision-making, predict production, and innovate services .


In general, the evolution path of manufacturing digital transformation is divided into three stages:

  1. Informatization - Realize R&D, production, supply and other business systems on the cloud, such as: cloud simulation, cloud design, cloud MES, cloud ERP, cloud marketing. With the help of resource pooling, flexible supply and pay-as-you-go features of the cloud platform, hardware costs, software costs, deployment costs, and operation and maintenance costs are greatly reduced.
  2. Digitalization - Realize collaborative collaboration to achieve horizontal integration of different businesses, IT and OT integration, end-to-end integration of business systems, realize development collaboration, design collaboration, R&D and manufacturing collaboration, supply and production collaboration, and promote the evolution of enterprises from individual/local intelligence to global optimization.
  3. Intelligentization - to achieve a shared win-win situation, to realize the optimization of enterprise operation and management through big data, artificial intelligence and other technologies, to transform business models, and to support the transformation of enterprises to digital operations.


Digital transformation is a process, not a final state. The application of single or multiple online tools (such as MES, WMS, ERPP, CRM, SRM) is also a type of digital transformation. Most manufacturing companies currently have more or less successful software application practices in modules such as supply chain, production management, and data analysis, have a certain understanding of digital transformation, and have accumulated a large amount of data in the production and operation process. Manufacturing companies need to focus on how to use big data, artificial intelligence, data analysis and other technologies to revitalize and apply a large number of internal data assets, and how to cover more scenarios to collect more data to optimize business operations.
