The sales embargo does not appear to apply to street vendors in Hong Kong.

A little over two weeks before the official launch, someone managed to pick up an RTX 4090 graphics card from Gigabyte. One doesn't usually see next-gen GPUs selling this quickly, but it may confirm that NVIDIA's motherboard partners do have plenty of cards waiting for customers.

This week, board partners just started sending out RTX 4090 test samples, which should reach reviewers soon. According to our sources, some media outlets have already received their cards, including NVIDIA's own Founders Edition. But very importantly, neither reviewers nor early customers will be able to use the cards.

NVIDIA has not released drivers to provide full functionality and performance. The driver won't be released to the public until October 12, when the card is officially released. That said, just because you bought the card so quickly, it's impossible to work without this driver. For members of the media, this driver will be available later this week.

Just like any RTX 4090 card, this model ships with a quad 8-pin to a 16-pin power adapter that unlocks over 450W of power. The card itself uses NVIDIA's latest Ada Lovelace architecture based on TSMC 4N process technology. The RTX 4090 features an AD102 GPU with 16384 CUDA cores and 24 GB of GDDR6X memory.
