OpenCat: An open source quadruped robot pet framework based on Arduino and Raspberry Pi

A Shenzhen project, OpenCat: An open source quadruped robot pet framework based on Arduino and Raspberry Pi. The project was inspired by Boston Dynamics' Big Dog and Spot Mini. OpenCat provides a fundamental open source platform to create amazing programmable gait, locomotion quadruped robots. It can perform complex movements (walking, running, jumping, backflips).

Project address: GitHub – PetoiCamp/OpenCat: An open source quadruped robot pet framework for developing Boston Dynamics-style four-legged robots that are perfect for STEM, coding & robotics education, IoT robotics applications, AI-enhanced robotics application services, and research .

With the help of custom Arduino boards and servos, OpenCat can perform complex movements (walking, running, jumping, backflips). People can also introduce perception and inject artificial intelligence by adding various sensors and cameras, by installing Raspberry Pi or other AI chips. Smart features (such as Nvidia Jetson Nano) via wired/wireless connection.

Users have deployed NVIDIA Issac simulation and reinforcement learning on their robots, developed vision- and lidar-based SLAM with ROS using Bittle and Raspberry Pi, and imitation learning using Petoi Bittle and Raspberry Pi's tiny machine learning models.

Customers have also successfully deployed OpenCat on their DIY 3D printed robotic pets and developed numerous robotics projects and applications, such as IoT automation using AWS' robotic fleets to improve worker safety.

OpenCat is an open source quadruped robot pet framework developed by Petoi, inspired by Boston Dynamics' Big Dog and Spot Mini. It is based on Arduino and Raspberry Pi, and can control the robot's gait, movement and inverse kinematics with C/C++/Python programming language.

OpenCat has been applied to two of Petoi's mini robot kits, namely the bionic palm, the lifelike and lovely robot cat Nybble and the high-performance robot dog Bittle. These robot kits can be equipped with various sensors and cameras, and connected to Raspberry Pi or other AI chips (such as Nvidia Jetson Nano) through wired or wireless connections to achieve perception and artificial intelligence capabilities. OpenCat users have deployed NVIDIA Issac simulation and reinforcement learning on robots, developed vision- and lidar-based SLAM and ROS using Bittle and Raspberry Pi, and imitated learning of tiny machine learning models using Petoi Bittle and Raspberry Pi. OpenCat can also be used for DIY 3D printing robot pets, or to develop various robot projects and applications, such as using AWS to realize IoT automation of robot fleets and improve work safety.

If you want to learn more about OpenCat, you can visit its GitHub page, or check out the Petoi company website and user showcase. You can also use the ChatGPT API to talk to OpenCat, there are some excellent software that supports this feature, such as Telegram, Bob, Alfred, Popclip, Siri and OpenCat.
