WeeChat 4.0.0 officially released

guide WeeChat (Wee Enhanced Environment for Chat) is a free and open source lightweight IRC client that is highly customizable and can be extended through scripts .

WeeChat supports most platforms and operating systems such as  Linux , BSD, macOS, Debian GNU/Hurd, HP-UX, Solaris, QNX, Haiku and Microsoft Windows (via Cygwin library and API)

The recent GA release of 4.0.0 uses Semantic Versioning and includes many breaking changes.

Main new features of this version:

  • More readable keybindings
  • 256 colors are used by default
  • Rename SSL option to TLS, use TLS by default to connect to IRC servers
  • Many identifiers are now case sensitive, also renamed default aliases to lowercase
  • Similar command names are displayed when the command is unknown
  • Add support for new IRC features: draft/multiline, batch and echo-message
  • Add support for LINELEN and UTF8ONLY in IRC plugin
  • Added IRC commands /action,/rules,/knock
  • Add API function config_set_version
  • ……
