The United States will restrict China's use of Amazon, Microsoft and other cloud services that provide training AI models

According to the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. government is preparing to introduce a series of measures to restrict Chinese companies and individuals from using U.S. cloud computing services in order to protect U.S. data security and technological advantages. These measures may include export licensing requirements for cloud service providers, background checks for cloud service users, regulation of cloud service content, etc.

If the new regulation is passed, it may require US cloud service providers such as Amazon and Microsoft to obtain government permission before they can provide cloud computing services related to AI chips in China.

The Commerce Department is expected to implement the restrictions in the coming weeks as part of an expansion of semiconductor export controls introduced in October.

Cloud computing refers to the mode of providing various computing resources and services through the Internet, including storage, processing, analysis, application, etc. The cloud computing market is huge and is expected to reach $1.3 trillion by 2025. The United States is a leader in cloud computing, with many well-known cloud service providers, such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. China is a rapid developer of cloud computing and has a number of highly competitive cloud service providers, such as Alibaba, Tencent, and Huawei.
