This year, JCR will assign Journal Impact Factors (JIF) to all journals included in the Web of Science Core Collection , which means that the coverage of Journal Impact Factors will start from Science Citation Index Extended (SCIE) and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) journals Expanded to Arts & Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI) and Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) journals.
That is, all journals included in the Web of Science Core Collection, including those in the arts and humanities, will have a Journal Impact Factor.
Before the latest impact factor is announced, let us review the 2023 impact factor adjustment announced by Clarivate Analytics on July 26, 2022 .
Clarivate Analytics believes that such changes help level the playing field for all high-quality journals.

In the future, ESCI will also have an impact factor, which means that new journals will soon be able to obtain an impact factor. Some believe that after ESCI journals also have impact factors, the boundaries between ESCI journals and SCIE journals will be blurred. In fact, the selection and evaluation criteria of SCIE journals and ESCI journals are quite different. The journal evaluation standard of SCIE database is higher. Clarivate Analytics uses a set of 28 criteria to evaluate whether a journal meets the requirements of SCI journals. These criteria are divided into 24 quality criteria and 4 impact criteria. Journals that meet 24 quality standards can enter ESCI, and only those that meet all 28 standards can become SCIE journals. Therefore, for a period of time, the dominant position of SCI journals will still exist.
For domestic universities, we will keep an eye on whether this will increase the recognition of ESCI!
In addition, journal impact factors in the 2023 JCR will be rounded to one decimal place , rather than the current three decimal places, to encourage users to refer to other metrics and descriptive metric in JCR when comparing journals. data.
