[World Book Day] 2023 Communication Good Book Recommendations

The annual World Book Day (April 23) is coming soon . According to the old rules, let me recommend some excellent books on communication.

In the past year, the focus of attention in the communications industry was mainly: 5G-Advanced (5.5G), computing power network, computing from east to west, 6G, satellite Internet, smart supersurface, integration of notification and perception, digital transformation, etc.

The books I recommend to you this year will focus on the above directions.

The specific list of recommended books is as follows (in no particular order):

█  5G/5.5G

The 5G standard is gradually maturing, and good books around 5G are slowly coming out. As the most mainstream technology in the field of mobile communications, 5G is worthy of in-depth study and research. It will have a long life cycle.

On the basis of recommendations in previous years, I recommend a few more 5G books for your reference.

  • "5G System Design - Detailed Explanation of End-to-End Standards"

0be18e0f2af626a86ba4bc9b45bdc4e4.jpeg

A book from a senior Huawei expert, focusing on 5G air interface and core network. Especially the architecture and process, which involve a lot. This book is suitable for the learning process starting from the basics.

  • "5G Principles and Network Optimization"

ed974adb193464158ee5b22fa81c9b2e.png

A book suitable for network optimization engineers. It mainly talks about the application of actual scenarios, and the basic principles are also introduced.

  • "5G NR Physical Layer Planning and Design"

72c09ae75c8ce27e9bb3e5aa66f31605.png

Talk about the air interface physical layer. Once you understand the physical layer (that is, the frame structure and channels), you will understand the 5G air interface, and you will basically understand the knowledge of wireless.

It is worth mentioning that the content of the 3GPP R17 standard will be implemented this year, and we will soon enter the 5.5G (5G-Advanced) era. 5.5G is a comprehensive enhancement to 5G. At present, I haven't seen any books on the in-depth interpretation of R17. Many existing 5G books have not been updated according to R17. The new 5G book released this year is estimated to have R17 content, so I suggest you pay attention to it. It is recommended not to buy the 5G books of R15 and R16.

█  6G

Many people ask me to recommend 6G books.

I personally feel that as of now, it is not .

These books are all published for the sake of publishing. There is a lot of hype, and the content is very empty and has no practical significance. Or, the content is too one-sided and only talks about a little dry stuff.

6G is still more than five years away from us, and the technology is still in the imagination stage. It is recommended that you do not rush to see it now. In the current 6G, companies that really research are keeping secrets, and nothing will be made public.

In a few years, 6G technology will gradually converge, and good books will gradually appear.

If you must buy it, you can take a look at the "6G Wireless Communication New Journey" published by Huawei Tongwen at the end of 2021. It was recommended last year.

If you are interested in the subdivision of 6G, buy books on the subdivision. 6G involves air-space-ground integration, terahertz, smart metasurface, and synaesthesia integration. You can pay attention to it this year.

I recommend two books on satellite communication:

  • "Satellite Internet: Building a New Era of Space-Ground Integrated Network"

  • "Modern Commercial Satellite Communication Systems (Second Edition)"

█ Cloud-network integration/computing power network

This year chatGPT and GPT-4 can be said to be very popular. As far as the communication field is concerned, on the one hand, it depends on how to introduce AI in the communication scene, and on the other hand, it is to do a good job in supporting AI computing power.

The support for computing power depends on the computing power network.

Before the explosion of chatGPT, under the influence of the big environment such as the migration of everything to the cloud, the large-scale construction of data centers, and the promotion of the strategy of counting from east to west, communication was engaged in computing power network. The three major domestic operators have greatly promoted the computing power network.

Personally, I am noncommittal about the value and prospects of the computing power network. If you want to know more, you can read these books:

  • "Computing Power Network: Network Architecture and Key Technologies in the Cloud-Network Convergence 2.0 Era"

2ccaa207ebac356eac70436bce347821.png

The book of China Unicom Research Institute is more comprehensive in content.

  • "Cloud-Network Integration: Research on Computing Power Scheduling Technology and Large-scale Application Practice"

b1bff5f86e78859be198564909b485b9.png

A book published by China Telecom experts. The content coverage is not too big, but everything that should be said is covered.

  • "A Book to Understand Edge Computing 2nd Edition"

b44a1eeedb1fb545888c048737ed8a80.png

Edge computing is also an important scenario of cloud-network integration, and now the industry is paying more attention. This book is from the edge computing community.

█Other  communication fields

  • "Data Center Handbook"

9a3c7d1bd8763c6a864c7b8558fdb362.png

Specifically speaking about data centers, the content is very comprehensive, and 51 experts from 7 countries co-edited it.

  • "Huawei's Road to Digital Transformation"

c0b24c70e75fe4d1a669ac8e148bcc22.png

Now that the whole society is engaged in digital transformation, I think Huawei's methodology is the most scientific.

█Non   -communication field

Recommend a few more books in the field of non-communication.

  • "A Brief History of Semiconductors"

e4f5efc40135f296204834d0653ce572.png

The most thorough Chinese book on the history of semiconductors that I have seen so far is worth reading.

  • "Illustrated Electronic Components"

3827b9402600ce77ca0359f3719c178a.png

This is a very interesting book. The author uses a macro camera to cut open all common or uncommon electronic components, and take pictures of the internal structure inside. It is very beautiful and shocking.

  • Soft Skills: A Survival Guide Beyond Code

ac109db38e7e71fd61f57e2ebb925de5.png

As the title of the book says, it is very practical to tell you how to improve the quality of life and the happiness of work.

Finally, let me advertise my own book again.

So far, I have published a total of three books, "Zhilian Tianxia: Mobile Communications Change China" (co-authored, 2019), "5G General Lectures" (2021), and "A Brief History of Communication" (2022).

Some talk about technology, and some talk about history, and the sales are pretty good.

This is a dedicated purchase link for the signed version of "A Brief History of Communication", and a custom notebook is also presented:

This year, Mr. Xiaozao also has a book "What is Communication (Tentative Title) " , which is being written and is expected to be released next year. Please support it when the time comes. Thanks!

Finally, post the recommended links of previous years, as follows. Books that have been recommended in previous issues will not be recommended again this year.
