LineageOS 19 is now officially released

guide LineageOS 19 has been officially released. LineageOS 19 is based on Android 12, the security patch is updated to April 2022, and the dark mode is enabled by default.

The announcement also reads that LineageOS 19 will not support older devices. This is because AOSP has removed iptables in favor of eBPF, which is a newer, more efficient kernel-side implementation. But only  Linux  4.9 or higher kernels can use eBPF, there is a backport for devices using the 4.4 kernel, and devices using the 3.18 or lower kernel will stop supporting it.

Major new features

  • WebView updated to Chromium 100.0.4896.127
  • Dark mode enabled by default
  • Completely rewrote the volume panel introduced in Android 12, changing it to a side pop-up expansion panel
  • Fix and optimize AOSP Gallery app
  • Fixes and optimizations for web browser Jelly
  • Brand new setup wizard with new Android 12 style icons, animations and tons of new configurable pages
  • Provides a fresh set of icons for almost all apps (including system apps)
  • The default toolchain for compiling the kernel uses AOSP Clang
  • adb_root service is no longer bound to the build type property

The new version also provides support for more new devices, see Changelog for details.

LineageOS is a free, free, open-source fork of Android for smartphones and tablets. It is the successor to the popular custom ROM CyanogenMod.
