The configuration of material master data is mainly managed in the MM module. Generally, MM consultants or MDM consultants are responsible for process sorting, rule discussion, and leading the completion of data collection. Therefore, during the implementation of the SAP system project, according to the system's specific configuration object requirements for the number of material master data, discuss and reach an agreement with the business leader, including the division of material types (material types are used to distinguish the materials used in various business processes unique identification, including raw materials, semi-finished products, trade materials, packaging materials, unvalued materials, spare parts and consumables), coding rules, etc. However, material master data needs to be used in various modules, such as material requirements planning (MRP) and work scheduling view, both from the perspective of planning and execution are very important for PP, so the process and data related to material master data Collecting PP modules also requires active participation.
PP information is mainly maintained in the MRP view of material master data, enabling the system to perform reliable material planning. The Work Scheduling view controls how production is performed.
The first is the material type . Different material types can control the view provided by the system to the end user during the material master data creation, in addition to the quantity and value update options. For example, the Purchasing view is generally not suitable for finished goods because the company does not purchase finished goods. Likewise, for raw materials, there is no sales view because companies generally do not sell their raw materials. These configurations will also affect the business of the PP module, such as whether the material is configurable, MRP view, and valueless materials (another solution for customer-supplied materials, which can be managed through valueless materials instead of special inventory B inventory) . Of course, the distinction of material types is also helpful for making some better judgments in the access logic of some reports.
To set the material type attributes, go through the configuration menu path SAP IMG • Logistics—General • Material Master • Basic Settings • Material Types • Define Attributes of Material Types. Figure 3.1 shows the configuration view for material type FERT (finished product) in the lower right corner of the screen , the option to control the views provided by the system during material master creation is selected. At the bottom of the screen (not shown) is the price control field where you can choose whether the item has a moving average price or a standard price.

The second is the coding rules . Some enterprises may have a standard process design process before the implementation of the ERP system, and the product codes are all meaningful codes. At this time, it may be necessary to consider whether to use external codes to fit the company Some process specifications. Of course, if there is no special requirement, the internal serial code can also be enabled, and some information of the process design, such as the drawing number, can be maintained in the basic view of the material master data.
The last is the maintenance of material master data . The data here directly affects the logic of our production business. According to my understanding, I will summarize it and write a separate article to introduce it later:
Classification view : This view actually involves a lot of knowledge points, and the commonly used ones are batch feature classification and configurable material classification (you can refer to the configurable material related articles I wrote before)
MRP view :
This MRP view is divided into 4 tabs in total, among these 4 tabs
1. It allows enterprises to define how to purchase materials and how to plan and control the data of this material in the production process. The definition of the procurement type specifies whether the company purchases the material externally or produces it internally.
2. It can be bought or produced. You can specify whether the material is a safety stock or a production plan or purchase plan driven by business needs.
3. By using strategy groups, it is possible to maintain control of whether a material uses make-to-stock (MTS), make-to-order (MTO), or assemble-to-order (ATO).
Work plan view:
This view contains underdelivery and overdelivery tolerances for internal production, production planning profiles (whether the order is automatically released, etc.), production planning profiles that control several business functions, details of production units of measure and production times information. For enterprise production products, this view must be maintained. There can be a different unit of measure, such as the production unit of measure, which may be different from the inventory base unit of measure.
Advanced plan
This view is mainly related to advanced scheduling, PP-DS module. It belongs to the function of SAP APO.
