The ancients said, "Teaching a man to fish is worse than giving him a fish." Today we will review the structure and content of the Amesim help documentation, and teach you how to use the help documentation reasonably and efficiently to learn Amesim modeling and simulation.

Note: The content of this article is based on Simcenter Amesim 2019.1 version. Starting from Simcenter Amesim 16, the structure of the help document is basically the same, and the content is roughly the same. Usually, the updated content of higher versions will be introduced in the help documentation, and the cases will be more abundant.

1. Amesim welcome interface

When we open Amesim for the first time or every time, the welcome page shown in Figure 1 will appear. On the welcome page, Amesim is divided into 15 modules (click the title on the left side of the window to switch between different modules), and uses dynamic pictures to show us the basic interface of the software, modeling process, component connections, basic functions, Basic knowledge of modeling techniques.

Many friends often close the welcome page directly after opening the software, without paying much attention to the content. The author's point of view is that the contents of the ** welcome page must be read! **There are three reasons: first, there is not much content , and it will not waste too much time; second, the content is not difficult , and it does not need to consume too much energy; finally, these contents are very useful , covering many problems that we may encounter in the modeling process Questions can greatly improve modeling efficiency, such as "Why can't components be connected?", "How to recall the library directory tree after accidentally closing it?" and other questions, you can find answers or get inspiration here. So, a must see!

2. Amesim help page

Click Help under the Help menu, or press the shortcut key F1 to open the Amesim help page shown in Figure 3, which covers all the content of the Amesim help document, which is also the part that this article will focus on.

Switch to the Contents tab on the left side of the help page, and you can see that the help document contains six modules. Click the corresponding title to display the content of the corresponding module on the page, or click the small triangle on the left side of the title to expand the lower-level titles , displaying the corresponding content. The six modules are introduced in turn as follows:

2.1 Simcenter Amesim Help module

Simcenter Amesim Help is the home page of the help page shown in Figure 3. Most of the links overlap with the content of other modules, or are not very helpful for most modeling and simulation, so no detailed introduction is given. **Everyone should pay attention to the Videos. **As shown in Figure 4, click Videos to open the Quick Start Movies window, which provides us with 11 introductory video tutorials, all within 4 minutes and 30 seconds, to introduce the basic functions and basic operations of Amesim. These videos are the same as the dynamic pictures on the welcome page mentioned above, not many, not difficult, and very useful , so I recommend everyone to watch them!

2.2 Demos module

The content of the Demos module is shown in Figure 5. It provides us with a large number of model cases from the three levels of software platform operation (Platform), model library use (Libraries) and industry solutions (Solutions), and we can choose according to our needs. Corresponding cases are used for reference study.

For example, if you want to learn about software post-processing cases, you can click Platform → Analysis Tools → Post Processing to view related Demo models;

If you want to learn the modeling examples of HCD library components, you can click Libraries → Hydraulic Component Design to view the demo model of the HCD library. There are 16 demos in total, including modeling examples of various valves, cylinders, pumps, etc., which are very useful for HCD library modeling. good reference material;

2.3 Platform Documentation module

The content of the Platform Documentation module is shown in Figure 9, including 11 parts and 60 graphic documents, which introduce in detail the basic modules and operations of the software, platform functions, analysis tools, optimization design methods, solution scripts, customized modeling, solution It covers various aspects such as controller and numerical calculation, MiL/SiL/HiL and real-time simulation, co-simulation interface, 1D/3D CAE, Modelica platform, etc. Each graphic document usually includes two formats: PDF and HTML (click the corresponding link in the window to open the document), among which PDF documents are more in line with our reading habits, while HTML documents can contain some dynamic pictures, which is more helpful for learning and understanding , both have their own advantages, you can choose to read according to your needs.

For Amesim beginners, it is recommended to study the two documents "Simcenter Amesim QuickStart Guide" and "Simcenter Amesim Tutorial" carefully, and then combine the welcome page and basic video tutorial mentioned above, which can basically meet the learning needs of Amesim entry. Other documents in Platform Documentation can be selectively studied according to specific modeling requirements.

2.4 Library Documentation module

The content of the Library Documentation module is shown in Figure 10, which includes a detailed introduction to 45 professional model libraries of Amesim.

Taking the hydraulic library as an example, click Hydraulic to open the window shown in Figure 11. Among them, link ① is an overview introduction to the hydraulic library in the form of graphics and texts, and at the same time, it also explains the important issues involved in it, and also gives some representative simulation examples; link ② is an overview of the library contains The sub-model of the sub-model is introduced in detail, including the usage of the sub-model, variables, parameter settings, mathematical models, etc.; link ③ is a detailed introduction to the hydraulic pipeline sub-model; link ④ is used to introduce the calculation procedures involved in the hydraulic library, including some Theoretical formulas and program codes, friends who want to learn more about the theoretical knowledge behind the hydraulic library sub-model can focus on this part; link ⑤ is the case model of the hydraulic library, which is consistent with the corresponding content in the Demos module; link ⑥ introduction Calculation methods for power, energy and activity of hydraulic library components.

The content of the Technical Bulletins module is shown in Figure 12, including four documents. Among them, TB102 introduces the Amesim integrator algorithm, TB117 introduces advanced oil properties, TB118 introduces Robert Bosch fuel properties, and TB121 introduces Amesim's handling of discontinuities.

3. Other aspects of help document use
