The momentum of ChatGPT was as strong as it was now being resisted by industry leaders.

Recently, more than a dozen European Union (EU) politicians signed an open letter to "suspend advanced AI research and development", calling for the "safe" development of AI (artificial intelligence), Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, among other AI CEOs, CTOs and researchers, signed the letter, which was released on March 22 by the Future of Life Institute (FOLI), a US think tank. In just a dozen days, the number of signatures approached 10,000, including even EU countries and the White House.

On April 16, European Parliament member Dragoș Tudorache shared an open letter on social platforms calling for collaboration around the development of AI and a common set of rules.

Recent developments in the field of AI have shown that the pace of technological progress is faster and less predictable than policy makers around the world anticipated, and our message to industry, researchers and policy makers in Europe and around the world is that AI development With more attention and consideration, together we can steer it in the right direction.

The letter also asks the head of the Trade and Technology Council (TTC) to agree to a preliminary agenda for the proposed AI summit, and asks global companies and countries to agree on a preliminary agenda for the proposed AI summit, a joint effort between the U.S. and the European Union to address economic and technological issues. In the process of developing artificial intelligence, we must continuously enhance our sense of responsibility.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai (Pichai Sundararajan) said in an interview with CBS on April 16 that he is cautious about the rapid development of AI, saying that society may take time to adapt to the new technology.

"It's not wise to rush a very powerful technology because society hasn't had time to adapt to it," he said.

Like Tudorache, Pichai argues that the speed at which social institutions think and adapt is too slow to match the speed of technological development.

Although there are many problems with the development of AI, Pichai is still "optimistic" about it. Compared with other technological advances in the past, the reason why many people worry about AI is the impact of its early development.

The European Union is already paying attention to AI with its Artificial Intelligence Law, while the European Data Protection Board has also launched a working group for ChatGPT (generative artificial intelligence chatbots).

The channel from EU politicians voiced the concerns of more than 2,600 technology leaders and researchers who called for a temporary moratorium on further AI development, fearing that excessive AI development would pose risks to humans and society.

While EU politicians agree with some of the core message of the FOLI letter and share some of their own concerns about AI, they disagree with much of it as alarmist.

In an interview with Fox on April 16, Musk continued to emphasize the possible risks of AI. He said that like any other technology, if AI is developed maliciously, it may be abused and cause irreversible consequences.

The controversy over artificial intelligence has also appeared in many countries recently.

On March 31, Italy temporarily banned ChatGPT, and on April 1, Italy officially offlined ChatGPT.

On April 3, the spokesperson of the German Federal Data Protection Commissioner stated that due to data protection considerations, Germany is likely to temporarily ban the use of ChatGPT in Germany. Additionally, the agency asked Italian regulators for more information on its blocking of ChatGPT.

The US non-profit organization Center for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Policy (CAIDP) also asked the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to investigate whether OpenAI violated consumer protection rules. It fell more than 26%, the biggest drop since the stock went public; BigBear.ai closed down 14.38%, and SoundHound.ai closed down 12.46%.

On April 13, the China Mobile Federation Metaverse Industry Committee and others jointly issued industry reminders to prevent the abuse of generative artificial intelligence applications such as ChatGPT.

At the same time, the Spanish National Data Protection Agency issued a statement stating that it had formally launched a preliminary investigation into ChatGPT’s possible violations of the law.
