Competition details

Due to COVID-19 and other scheduling issues, we understand that schools and students in some countries will not be able to participate in the MCM/ICM competition held in February this year. While we cannot change the February competition date, we have decided to have a spring MCM/ICM competition this year (2023 only). The spring competition is as challenging as the regular MCM/ICM and will be held from March 30th to April 3rd this year. Teams that have participated in the regular competition that just ended this year can also register for this new spring competition. However, regardless of whether you have participated in this year's regular MCM/ICM competition, you need to re-register and obtain a new team control number (the control number used in the February regular season is invalid).

The spring MCM/ICM competition will offer a choice of two questions: an MCM data-related question and an ICM-related question. The spring competition will be judged separately from the regular competition held in February ⚠️, but with the same level of difficulty.

We sincerely hope that by holding this sister competition, we will provide an opportunity for all students who wish to participate in MCM/ICM. Again, this spring competition is only for this year.

Competition period: March 30 to April 3, 2023
Question Y: Questions related to MCM data
Question Z: Questions related to ICM

Entry suggestion (personal opinion)

The optimal order of participation should be: 1. Hands-on competition (choose one or more): May Day Modeling (simple topic, but registration fee is required) Strong promotion of Electrician Cup (moderate topic, good gold content, no registration fee) Certification Cup (there are two stages, the gold content is not directly proportional to the difficulty of the topic, registration fee is required, and students who have not participated in modeling are not recommended to participate) 2. Advanced competition Mathorcup (higher difficulty, last year's difficulty is the same as the national competition, registration is required If you don’t have time, don’t participate) Meisai (although it is an advanced competition, but the time is after the national competition, so you can participate after the national competition. It is more difficult, requires English writing, and the time is one day longer than the national competition. The recognition of some colleges is not bad. If the school does not reimburse the registration fee and has no guarantee for research or other similar reasons, you can not participate. It is not recommended to form teams across schools, because the certificate only has one school name) 3. The National College Student Mathematical Modeling Competition is listed , because most colleges and universities in China now recognize this competition, and the number of participants is very large, and the gold content is very high.

Selecting teammates and assigning tasks (importance: 5 stars)

The most important thing is to choose a suitable teammate. If you have two good teammates, you will definitely fall in love with the modeling competition and can exercise your teamwork ability to a great extent. The joy when I came up with a good idea, the program ran successfully, and especially when I finally finished my thesis, is beyond words. I think this kind of experience is more important than the result of the competition. The following are my suggestions for selecting teammates: (The eighth priority is the highest) 1. Don’t find someone who has a lot of things (regardless of gender, in my experience, the proportion of girls is greater than that of boys). I would not choose to let the girl stay up late, or the girl has her period, or the girl’s boyfriend is here (especially dangerous, I saw someone was actually beaten in Zhihu, because he made the girlfriend of the boy who beat him stay up late) like this Undoubtedly, it greatly affects the game. 2 Don't find a couple! (Ahem, I won’t say much about the reasons) 3 The best matching plan: three men or one woman and two men (optimal), one man, two women or three women are not recommended (especially girls, because they have a good relationship and give up an opportunity, I I feel that I will regret it sooner or later) 4 collocation: modeling hand + thesis hand + programming hand (the most important of which is the paper hand, because if the paper is well written, the algorithm may get good results if the algorithm is not good) 5 suggestions Suggestions for modeling hands: Mathematics/statistics/related majors are preferred 6 Suggestions for thesis hands: no matter what major you major in, but liberal arts students choose carefully, because even if the papers are well written, some people may not be able to understand modeling Ideas for hands or programming hands 7 Professional advice for programming hands: computer-related majors (learning big data, machine learning, data science, etc. are preferred, and those who know matlab or python are preferred) Sometimes you need to avoid a thunder: not necessarily acm is very good A good person must be suitable as a programmer. Modeling is more about doing algorithm problems. 8 It is always right to know the boss and find the boss to form a team
