VLC 3.0.17 comes about 9 months after VLC 3.0.16 with several new features including support for DTS-HD LBR (Low Bit Rate) codecs, support for AV1, E-AC3 and GeoVision codecs New FOURCC, support for DAV video files, WebP image maps, and uncompressed audio (ISO/IEC 23003-5) for MP4 files.

This release also brings many improvements, such as better hardware decoding for some AMD's GPU drivers, improved playback of real-time AV1 streams, improved support for VP9 streams, improved support for AudioCD (audio/ data blending mode, MusicBrainz), improved subtitle support for MP4 tracks using the tx3g codec, improved HTTP2 memory usage, and improved AVCapture and SRT modules.
