Chinese Manufacturer Announces World's First RISC-V Laptop for Developers

Xcalibyte has announced  ROMA , which it claims is the world's first "native" RISC-V laptop for developers, led by RISC-V International (a non-profit organization) and co-built by Deepcomputing and Xcalibyte to provide native RISC-V development experience.

According to the press release, ROMA is equipped with a quad-core RISC-V CPU, a GPU/NPU accelerator, up to 16GB LPDDR4/LPDDR4X memory, up to 256GB hard drive capacity, and supports running most Linux distributions. Officials have not announced more detailed technical specifications, so the appearance and price of the ROMA did not appear in the press release. Since it is the booking phase, the press release concludes with a form for collecting customer booking information.

In addition, the press release repeatedly mentioned the buzzwords of the moment: NFT and Web3. For example, ROMA claims to be a Web3-friendly platform, and the first 100 customers who pre-order ROMA will receive a unique NFT to commemorate the birth of the world's first native RISC-V laptop.

ROMA's press release mentions that the project is "led by RISC-V International," which also reports on ROMA on its website , along with a picture of what appears to be a laptop keyboard -- notably including a "RISC" -V" key, some people guess this is the shortcut key to start the development environment, or a simple and standard customizable programming key.

Although the official photo of ROMA has not been released, according to previous reports from the technology media The Register , RISC-V International CEO Calista Redmond said in an interview that as their management entities strive to obtain more financial and financial benefits from large companies Development support, there will be a RISC-V laptop release sometime this year. At the Spring 2022 RISC-V Week event held in Paris, France in early May, the PPT presented by Philipp ToMSIch, chairman of the RISC-V International  Software Committee, showed a photo of a suspected RISC-V laptop, which was related to the just announced ROMA corresponds to it.

The reason is that the detail exposed in the upper left corner of this picture happens to be a mineral water that is very common in China : )
