My Reading Notes - "Outliers"

book review:

I personally think the following three reviews sum up this book very well:
          1. Kai-Fu Lee's book review, Success Formula: Intelligence + Diligence + Opportunity + Social Environment = Success , in which opportunities and social environment are often overlooked by us
          2. Tang Jun, as long as we master the law of success, we can create a colorful life. Heterogeneous tells us that the prerequisite for the law of success to work is that we must face up to our environment and opportunities
         3. Xu*xiao#Ping, success rules the frustrated people bring courage, and brings inspiration to the proud people
Summarize key words, patterns of success, especially circumstances and opportunities

Prologue, The Mystery of Roseto
Whether a person lives long or not depends on individual behavioral habits - our diet, exercise, our medical conditions. No one thought that health was also related to the concept of community.
Looking at a person 's health in isolation from its behavioral decisions is bound to lead astray. Their way of looking at problems must go beyond the individual . They must understand that the habits he or she follows are largely from their friends and relatives , from the town where their family lives. They should have respect for perspectives that recognize the value of the world we live in and the people around us who have a profound impact on us.

The first opportunity
Chapter 1 The Matthew Effect
" If you have something, you should give it to him, so that he has more than enough. If you don't have it, you will even take what he has ." Successful people can get more opportunities and become more successful.
Barnsley believes that in the three links of player selection, talent classification and differentiated training, there is a Matthew effect without exception . If you decide from a very young age who is good and who is poor, if you want to pick out the "excellent" from the "mediocre", if you want to start a small stove for the training of the "excellent", then you will end up. Will leave the opportunity to a small group of players whose birth dates are closest to the legal registration time
Core: The Influence of Social Institutions on Individual Success

Chapter 2 10,000 Hours Standard
The computer world is different from the previous interpersonal network. In the interpersonal network, you have to rely on money and connections if you want to develop. The computer world is a big open world, and all participants can be recognized only by their talents and accomplishments.
A certain level of intense practice is essential for those who excel on important missions—they need to learn specialized skills over and over again. In fact, researchers agree that 10,000 hours of practice is required to be effective, which is incredible!

Core point: For a person's skills to be world-class, he has to practice more than 10,000 hours - any industry is no exception

Chapter 3 The Troubles of Genius (Part 1)
A basketball player just needs to be a certain height—and so does a person's IQ. IQ has a limit
Core point of view: A person's success has a certain relationship with his IQ, but after a certain IQ rises, it has little to do with his success.

Chapter 4 The Troubles of Genius (Part Two)
Defending a murder conviction, or persuading a teacher to move his morning lessons to the afternoon are special techniques that psychologist Robert Sternberg calls "practical intelligence."
In Sternberg's view, " knowing when and how you should say what you should say to others in order to achieve the best results" is an aspect of practical intelligence. This is more of a procedural concept: it refers to how you should do something , not necessarily related to whether you know why you are doing it or whether you can provide a reasonable explanation for the behavior. It is practical : it is not the ability to explain yourself, it is the ability to correctly understand your situation and achieve your goals . And, more critically, it is an IQ that is different from an IQ test, outside of a person's analytical abilities. When the term is used, a person's general IQ and practical IQ are often "disjoint"
So where do the various aspects of practical IQ come from? Social savvy is a kind of knowledge, it is a set of skills to be learned , it should come from somewhere , such as the family we live in is a place that affects our attitude and social skills.
Lario calls the middle-class parenting approach "co-nurturing," which is designed to actively "nurture and evaluate a child's talents, perceptions, and skills ." On the contrary, the poor follow a "natural growth" strategy, in which they believe that their responsibility is to look after their children , but they should allow them to grow and develop freely.
Lario emphasized that there is no way to say which of the two cultivation methods is better. In Lario's view, poor children are good at hands-on, do not like to complain, can manage their time more creatively, and have a strong sense of independence. But at the practical level, the advantages of collaborative training are more obvious. The child of a middle-class family with a tight schedule of activities is constantly changing her own experience, she can learn to work as a team, and she also knows how to handle some high-level events. She knows how to please adults, and she knows how to sweetly persuade adults when needed . In Lario's eyes, children from middle-class families began to understand the meaning of "rights".
Alex has these skills because, in his young life, his father and mother - in the style of a well-bred family - took great pains to apply the methods they had been taught to On the child, show him the rules of the game, constantly remind him, stimulate him, and motivate him. Even on the way to the doctor, he did not forget to have a realistic little preview.
