Intel and Alibaba Cloud have a long-term history of CPU customization cooperation. The Skylake processor used in the new product family has also been specially customized for cloud computing scenarios, and its performance is second to none.
The storage field has evolved into an advanced architecture that separates computing and storage. A single instance of SSD cloud disks has reached 180,000 IOPS, including a leap in latency and throughput.
In addition, the basic network infrastructure has been fully upgraded to the second-generation Apsara vSwitch technology. The PPS performance of the network reaches 4.5 million PPS for a single instance, and the latency is reduced by 66%, achieving a network capability comparable to that of a physical machine.
The specification family names of the latest generation of hardware architectures are G5 (General Purpose) for General Purpose, C5 (Compute Type) for Compute, and R5 (Memory(Ram) Type) for Memory. All three specification families use the Skylake processor with the best cost-effective single-GHz computing power deeply customized by Alibaba Cloud and Intel.
The general-purpose instance G5 is suitable for the computing needs of various usage scenarios of enterprises. It is suitable for small and medium-sized databases, data processing that requires a certain amount of memory, cache clusters, and back-end server scenarios for other enterprise applications. The computing instance C5 is designed for heavy computing load application scenarios, and can be applied to scenarios such as batch computing, web front-end servers, data analysis, and game services. The R5 family of in-memory instances is designed for heavy-memory-load application scenarios, and can be widely used in high-performance databases, data analysis and mining, in-memory databases, distributed in-memory caches, Hadoop, Spark clusters, and other enterprise applications with large memory requirements.
When other competitors in the domestic public cloud computing field are still limited by software performance and cannot exert the highest capabilities of hardware, the latest generation instance products of Alibaba Cloud ECS can make full use of and reach the upper limit of the latest hardware performance, so that the software performance cannot be improved. It will become the bottleneck of hardware performance.
Taking the network performance of the cloud host as an example, a common example in the industry can only reach 2~3Gbps of intranet bandwidth in the case of a 10G network, and the network packet sending and receiving capacity is 300,000 PPS. Even in the hardware environment of a 25G network, the intranet performance It can’t exceed 10Gbps, and the PPS of the intranet generally cannot exceed 1.5 million. The latest generation of Alibaba Cloud instances has been able to maximize the maximum intranet bandwidth of a single instance to 30Gbps, and the network packet sending and receiving capability can reach the order of 4.5 million.
In terms of computing, the memory bandwidth is increased by 66%, and the upper limit of the shaping computing performance of a single instance is increased by more than 60%. It relies on the latest AVX512 instruction set. Compared with the previous generation AVX2.0 instruction set, it has twice the data processing width, which can effectively Improve the performance of floating point operations.
With the release of the latest generation of Skylake+25G instances, Alibaba Cloud's ECS enterprise-level product line already has 19 specification families for 173 scenarios for users to choose from. At the ECS enterprise-level product line conference on 8.9, Alibaba Jiang Linquan, director of the cloud ECS product line, also announced on the spot that i2 instances with stronger local disk IO performance and larger capacity will be sold online on August 22.
At the same time, the news of the price reduction was also announced at the press conference. The maximum price reduction for enterprise-level ECS was 35%, and a 50% price difference for enterprise-level instances was introduced to customers before August 3.
