How to Test Fiber

The field engineering test of the optical fiber is divided into a first-class test ( tire1 ) and a second-class test ( tier2 ). The first type of test is to use a light source and an optical power meter to test the attenuation value of the optical fiber, and to judge whether it is qualified according to the standard, and the length of the test fiber is attached; the second type of test is the "universal" test and the "application type" test, which mainly tests the attenuation of the optical fiber. Whether the value and length meet the requirements of the standard, so as to judge whether the installed optical fiber link is qualified. Install the optical fiber test module in the instrument first, then power on to select a test standard, and then you can perform the normal test. The test results are stored in the instrument or imported into the computer with software for saving and processing. The instrument will automatically judge whether it is qualified or not according to the selected standard.

Application-based testing is mainly to diagnose a specific application for testing. For example, planning to install gigabit fiber optic equipment requires testing whether a fiber can support this specific application of 1000Base - F (Gigabit Ethernet fiber link). The corresponding standard can be selected in the instrument for testing, and the qualification can be automatically judged.

The quality of the optical fiber link is certified by the method of testing the fiber attenuation value. This method is called "one type of test" ( tier1 ). For users with high requirements, in order to ensure that all structural elements of the optical fiber link are qualified (optical fibers, connectors, fusion junctions, sockets, etc.), and to ensure the quality of high-speed applications, it is necessary to add a test OTDR curve on the basis of a type of test. Weld points in the link. Whether the quality of the connection points and the like meets the requirements, this kind of test is called "one type test".

Type 2 test needs to choose a tester with type 2 test function ( OTDR + attenuation + length test)

In addition to the first-class test and the second-class test, some high-end users also have video detection and link structure testing requirements for optical fiber links. Video inspection can use a fiber optic microscope to check the cleanliness, ovality, concentricity, smoothness, protrusion, etc. of the patch cord plug section, so as to help confirm whether the quality level of the patch cord meets the requirements, or according to the position indicated by the OTDR curve, Check the socket for similar quality indicators.
