Linux Mint 19 "Tara" goes live in May: promises no private data

Linux Mint founder and head of development Clement Lefebvre said in a monthly report released today that the upcoming Linux Mint 19 "Tara" will be based on Canonical's latest Ubuntu 18.04 LTS (Bionic Beaver) system. Release date, and Lefebvre also said that LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) version 3 is also coming soon.

Since the Beta version of the Cinnamon 3.8 desktop environment is expected to be released early next month, the final official version is expected to go live in 2-3 weeks. Therefore, it is speculated that the Linux Mint 19 "Tara" and LMDE 3 versions will be released in late May or early June.

Clement Lefebvre also confirmed that the Linux Mint 19 "Tara" system will have three maintenance updates in the future, namely Linux Mint 19.1/19.2/19.3, and the Cinnamon, MATE and Xfce desktop environment versions will also have three updates.

In other respects, LMDE 3 is only launched with the Cinnamon 3.8 desktop environment and supports 32/64-bit systems. Aside from some basic features, the team is working on encryption for Linux Mint 19 "Tara" home directories, but LMDE 3 does not support full disk or home directory encryption.

Another interesting point is that Linux Mint 19 "Tara" clearly stated that it will not collect/send your privacy or system data, and confirmed that it will not carry Canonical's "ubuntu-report" deployed in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, the service allows Select the type of data to send.
