TeX Live 2018 released: Windows platform no longer supports XP system

The current latest version of TeX Live is 2018, which can be obtained from: http://tug.org/texlive/acquire.html , http://tug.org/texlive/acquire-dvd.html .

The development team said that this year's TEX Live was dedicated to their colleague Staszek Wawrykiewicz, who passed away.

The following describes the update content

  • epTEX, eupTEX: new primitives \epTeXversion

  • LuaTEX: Ready to upgrade to LuaTEX 5.3 in 2019: A luatex53 program is available on most platforms, but must be renamed luatex to be used. Or use the documentation from ConTEXt Garden ( http://wiki.contextgarden.net ); more info there

  • MetaPost: fixes for wrong path direction, TFM and PNG output

  • pdfTEX: allow bitmap fonts to use encoding vector; current directory is no longer added to PDF ID calculation; bugfixes and related changes to \pdfprimitive

  • XeTEX: support /Rotate when inserting PDF image files; return non-zero exit code if exporter fails; many UTF-8 and primitive fixes

  • MacTEX: See below for changes supported by macOS versions. In addition, the files installed by MacTEX under /Applications/TeX/ have been reorganized for clarity; this directory now contains four GUI programs (BibDesk, LaTeXiT, TeX Live Utility and TeXShop), its subdirectories then contains the rest of the utilities and documentation

  • tlmgr: new tlshell (Tcl/Tk) and tlcockpit (Java) frontends; JSON output; uninstall can now be used instead of remove; new print-platform-info option

Platform support

  • New: x86_64-linuxmusl and aarch64-linux. Removed: armel-linux, powerpc-linux

  • x86_64-darwin support 10.10–10.13 (Yosemite, El Capitan, Sierra sum High Sierra)

  • x86_64-darwinlegacy supports 10.6–10.10 (though 10.10 is best with x86_64-darwin). Removed all support for 10.5 (Leopard), which means the powerpc-darwin and i386-darwin platforms are removed

  • Windows: XP is no longer supported

future

TEX Live is not perfect and will never be perfect. We hope to keep releasing new versions, and we hope to provide more help documentation, more utilities, more installers, and of course more updated packages and fonts, and everything else related to TEX. This work is done by volunteers in their free time, so there is always more to be done. See  http://tug.org/texlive/contribute.html
