   Wide area network (wide range, small bandwidth)

   Metropolitan area network (moderate range, moderate bandwidth)

   Local area network (small range, large bandwidth)

 

2. Classified by network topology:

   Bus type, star type , ring type, tree type, mesh type (complete type)

 

  3. Classified according to the transmission medium used: 

     Coaxial cable, twisted pair (network cable) , optical fiber , wireless , satellite
