VCSA-6.7,7.0 installation interruption solution

**

A. Installation of VCSA6.7

**

Step 1, run the VCSA 6.7 deployment program, refer to the relevant deployment article of Mr. He for some screenshots in the middle

The second step is to configure the VCSA virtual machine network. FQDN fills in the IP address allocated by the virtual machine. Note that if there is no DNS server, please fill in the VCSA virtual machine IP. Do not fill in the gateway or other IP at will, because the filled IP cannot be resolved in the second stage. The deployment failed due to an error.
FQDN, IP address and DNS are best to be an IP address! !
The third step is to confirm that the parameters of the first stage are correct and start the deployment.

Step 4, start to deploy the RPM package, and get stuck at 80% of the common in the first stage.

Step 5, if it is stuck for a long time, please check whether the operating client can ping through the VCSA network. Normally, the VCSA virtual machine has been powered on and can ping through.

The sixth step is to complete the first phase of deployment. The key point is here. Don't click "Continue" directly.

Step 7, if you continue directly, the deployment will fail, because the default system name photon-machine will be used during the deployment process, and this default address cannot be resolved by DNS, so the second stage deployment will fail.

Step 8, use the browser to open for configuration.

Open the web address https://192.168.80.145:5480 suggested in the figure above in the browser, and click Settings

In step 9, you can see that the system name uses the default photon-machine.

Step 10: Modify the system name to the IP address of the VCSA virtual machine.

Step 11, confirm that the parameters of the second stage are normal, and the key point is the modification of the host name.
* Problem phenomenon * When
we install to this step, the new version will encounter the following two situations.
a. The provided system name XXXX is invalid
. b. The host name cannot be saved.
According to the official instructions of vmware, in the VCSA6.7 series version, the host name will be resolved forward and backward during installation. If the analysis fails, the above two errors will be reported. When we install VCSA, we often use ip as the system name. If ip is used, it cannot be reversely resolved, even if a resolution entry is added to the /etc/hosts file. If you use a custom host name, if the host name is not resolved in the DNS server. In this case, the forward and reverse analysis will not pass the same problem.
In the VCSA system, there is a small DNS service software called: dnsmasq.
Since the problems we encounter are caused by the inability to resolve forward and reverse, we can use the built-in dnsmasq to manually define the resolution to solve this problem.
The specific steps are as follows:
1. In the first stage of VCSA installation, if we configure the network parameters of VC as:
ip address: 192.168.80.145
subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.80.1
system name: vcsa1
2. In the second stage of operational installation. We need to access VCSA through the console first , and then: (You can also open SSH and shell on the console and log in through ssh)

按ctrl+alt+f1进入命令行界面
输入shell
执行:cp /etc/dnsmasq.conf /etc/dnsmasq-bak.conf
vi /etc/dnsmasq.conf 将no-hosts改为addn-hosts=/etc/dns_add_hosts(此文件和路径由自己定义)
将listen-address=127.0.0.1改为listen-address=192.168.80.145
然后保存wq退出;
vi /etc/dns_add_hosts 添加解析记录:
192.168.80.145 vcsa1(如果使用主机名来安装VCSA添加此记录)
192.168.80.145 192.168.80.145(如果使用ip地址来安装VCSA添加此记录)

Then save wq and exit, restart the dnsmasq service. systemctl restart dnsmasq
uses nslookup vcsa1 and nslookup 192.168.80.145 to test the forward and reverse analysis.
3. After the analysis operation is completed, we will proceed to the second step of the VCSA installation, then there will be no errors.

Step 12: The deployment of the VCSA virtual machine is completed without any deployment failure caused by DNS resolution.

The 13th step, use the browser to log in, it is completely normal, pay attention to the IP address used is not FQDN.

B VCSA7.0 installation

**

1. In the first stage, FQDN, IP address, and DNS server fill in the same IP address

2. After the first stage prompts that the deployment is successful, in the vsphere web client, press F2 to enter the VCSA configuration interface, and select Troubleshooting Mode Options

Press Enter to enter, select Enable SSH, and then press Enter. Make sure that the SSH state is turned on.

Log in to the management address of VCSA with SSH, enter the shell, edit the /etc/hosts file, and add a line as follows:
192.168.80.110 localhost
#Format description: VCSA management address host name

The default host name of VCSA7.0 is localhost, and the default host name of VCSA6.7 is photon-machine.
If you enter the 5480 installation and change the default host name localhost, the host name in the /etc/hosts file is the same as the modified host name

3. When the installation reaches 63%, the following error will be prompted, just click close. In fact, it has been successfully installed.

4. Log in to the management address of VCSA

Personal suggestion is to install AD and deploy DNS server safely.
