On understanding and experience of leadership

1 Introduction

In 2020, I participated in a series of management training activities organized by Vipshop University. These activities are unique. They first awaken the body, then open the heart, and finally let the body and mind be nourished by knowledge. I have participated in several management and leadership training courses in the past. The main difference between this training and the past is that the methodology and management tools are seldom explained in the classroom. Instead, it focuses on the construction of the leader’s own way of thinking, especially for the leader himself. , The interpretation of the manager’s sense of mission and responsibility makes me feel cold. In the past cognition, the work of managers or leaders is mainly to focus on affairs and performance, and they rarely feel the changes brought to the team by their own inner feelings, so that doing things well and achieving performance becomes natural. . In the series of courses, I fully recognize my shortcomings and room for improvement. Among them, there are three points that are most inspired, such as the recognition of authority, the focus of the leader and self-awareness.

2. Avoid falling into the trap of authority

Avoiding the trap of authority is a compulsory course for every leader in his career. In the game "kneading paper", everyone in my group and I did it. More than 70% of the students did it, and none of the students had any questions. Afterwards, the teacher explained that this is a test of authority and obedience. Most of them will obey authority. I believe that most of the people present think that they are people with independent thinking and speculative abilities, but they all obeyed unconditionally and obeyed the authority’s instructions, even It is a wrong instruction, or an unclear instruction. The impact of this authority can be positive or negative. As a leader, you must be able to avoid negative effects on the entire organization and ensure that the team is doing the right thing. As a leader, I hope to do the following in my daily work and life:

  • Always review your behavior, whether you are open and accept different opinions, and can look at criticisms and accusations positively
  • For the instructions of the superiors, understand thoroughly and understand the true intentions and execute them, and fully understand that the instructions of the leaders are doing the right thing.
  • For subordinates’ questions or discussions, discuss and form effective feedback on an equal footing, encourage all subordinates to be more than just pragmatic, and to be a person with a truly independent spirit and ability to think.

3. Focus on opportunities instead of problems

Focusing on the opportunities behind the problems is a must-have recipe for every mature leader in his work and life. The LEADER of a team has to deal with different problems every day. Dealing with these problems will take up a lot of time and energy. Then the leader's mind may be overwhelmed by these problems, which will affect the final performance. After digesting the learning results in the course, gradually change your thinking mode. When facing a problem, you will be more proactive and deepen the essence and cause of the problem, find new opportunities from the essence and cause, and improve your work style through a new opportunity Or get better results.

4. Rediscover yourself and become the best version of yourself

Leaders have great influence in their hearts, and they keep discovering themselves and meeting their best self. The first priority in management is to solve one's own problems. In the classroom, Mr. Wang mentioned Mr. Chen Xun's words many times. In recent years of team management practice, it has also been concluded that the essence of management problems is the leaders’ own problems. I often hear some leaders complain that the team atmosphere is not good, the subordinates are not good enough, the leadership decisions are not good, etc., so calmly think about this What influence does it have? Regarding the existing problems, do you actively explore opportunities for effective improvement? Leaders have followers because they take responsibility and make the right decisions. Whether the leader is consistent with his words and deeds becomes the best representative of team values. Finding yourself and becoming the best self is the practice of a lifetime. Practice the following in the practice of a lifetime:

  • Keep the habit of reading and enrich yourself by communicating with people with outstanding ideas through reading.
  • Regular thinking training to maintain the ability of independent thinking and speculation becomes the spark that illuminates others.
  • Regular introspection and review, correct inappropriate behaviors and performances by reviewing their own behaviors and performances, and become a reliable partner all day long.

5. Positive and open mind to form influence

  • Through every opportunity to argue and discuss with others, turn the blind spot quadrant into a public quadrant, and improve the public quadrant through feedback from others

6. Summary

A good leader is able to achieve himself by achieving others, and use his limited life to illuminate every life around him, and let the life around him emit a brighter light.
