At the beginning of the last "Thinking of Myself" article, I once again emphasized my current understanding of life:

  1. The meaning of life lies in a lot of experience;

  2. Consciousness (rationality) is more advanced than thinking and must be fully utilized.

The article "Sijilu-4: Thinking and Behavior" is more about the second point - rational thinking and analysis.

Today I want to delve deeper into the first question, what exactly is experience, how do we experience as much as possible, what does it mean to have a good experience and a bad experience?

what experience means

During the May Day holiday, I spent more time with my child, and sometimes I would observe some of his behaviors. He is also considered to be a newborn, curious about everything. You can play for a while with a mineral water bottle. You like new toys and don't like old ones. I laugh happily when I am happy, and cry loudly when I am unhappy.

Sometimes I wonder, since when did I become disinterested in many things around me? Since when did you learn to disguise your emotions and hide your emotions?

If I recall some experiences when I was a child now, some fragments of elementary school flashed in my mind. For example, the bright galaxy in summer, the sound of frogs in the countryside, and the fireflies flying in the yard; for example, climbing the old banyan tree next to the school, roasting potatoes in the cave under the boulder, and raising tadpoles in small puddles until one day become frogs; such as eating mulberries until your lips turn purple, sweet dew from evening primrose, small snacks that cost a dime each...

Thinking about it carefully, most of my most beautiful and memorable experiences were in my childhood, in the countryside. And with the growth of age and experience, there are fewer and fewer things that make me feel fresh.

When I was writing this article, I took a look at the Arctic Ocean drink on the table. It was a plastic yellow shell with sparkling water inside. I picked it up and took a sip. It was a little sweet and a little refreshing like sparkling water, but that was all. I don't care what it's made of, and it doesn't seem to bring me any joy.

I took another look at the computer I was using and it looked sophisticated, but I wasn't as curious about it as a kid because I didn't see anything particularly magical about the screen glowing, the color changing, the keyboard pressing and popping Place, as it should be. I don't even care about its internal operation principle, the composition of the circuit board.

So why can children study for a long time with a mineral water bottle, but I can't? Because the mineral water bottle is fresh and full of unknowns to him. He may be curious about why this thing is transparent, can refract light, can hold water inside, how to open it, what it tastes like, does it make a sound when shaken, and can it be pinched. And I just think it is an ordinary mineral water bottle.

Back to the question, what exactly is experience? "Experience is not an objective thing, but a person's subjective view . " Humans naturally like the unknown and new, but are afraid of uncertainty and risk (this should start to appear after the day after tomorrow). So "the essence of experience is a person's subjective view of his exposure to new things . "

good experience and bad experience

There are good and bad experiences. Simply put, what you subjectively like and want to continue to experience is a good experience for you. For example, watching a comedy movie and laughing, being with the person you like, getting paid for labor, and feeling of accomplishment, etc.

What you hate subjectively and what you don't want to experience again is a bad experience for you. Such as illness, separation, overwork, failure, failure to get what you want, etc.

Of course, people want more good experiences and fewer bad experiences in their whole life. Unfortunately, bad experience is inevitable, more or less will encounter some.

Whereas things are objective, experiences are subjective. So when bad things happen, you can give full play to the spirit of Ah Q, comfort yourself properly, and make your experience not so bad. It is a good choice to be happy, for example: parting is to meet again, failure is the mother of success.

If you can't live up to the spirit of Ah Q, then accept it calmly. After all, life is about experience, and this is part of experience. Things will pass, people will die, and everything will die, so it’s not a big deal.

How to have more experience

So if a person wants more experience, he must try to touch things that he has never touched. For example, travel to different places, communicate with different people, read different books, and try to understand things that you have never understood before.

In this regard, many Internet recommendation platforms (such as Douyin) take advantage of human nature to like freshness, and constantly use different content to stimulate and attract users.

This kind of Internet fast food information consumption can also be regarded as a kind of experience, but it is the kind of experience that comes and goes quickly. After a period of time, this information will be completely forgotten, and will not leave too many traces in your life.

This kind of experience is an experience that cannot be taken away, and it will not have a big impact on shaping personality. Looking at a lifetime over a long period of time, this kind of immediate experience without long-term impact is not of great benefit to life.

So we need to redefine experience. The experience we really need and want should be: "new, good experience that can have a long-term impact . "

Reading, writing, traveling, exercising, spending time with family members, and writing code that interests me are all experiences that I should pursue.

In addition, it is also a good choice to record it in words to help yourself remember what you have done in the past period of time.
