Getting started with 5G modules

About 5G module learning summary

5G modules and 5G chips do not refer to the same thing. 5G modules are based on 5G chips. According to different needs (interface type, number of interfaces, and other functions, etc.), different external circuits are added, and then packaged The product formed.

Function: Adding a 5G module to the device allows the device to transmit data through the 5G network. Compared with the 4G module, its transmission rate is higher and the delay is lower, which provides the possibility for many ideas based on 4G modules that cannot be completed well. (Such as autonomous driving, smart city, smart transportation, 5G drone, etc.)

5G modules are generally compatible with 4G. Whether they are compatible with 2/3G, you need to check the detailed information of the module.

There are abundant interfaces on the 5G module, such as commonly used USB, I2C, UART and so on.

Among the 5G parameters, I often see a parameter called sub-6g. When I first saw this word, I was very confused. Why did a 6G come out?

After checking the information, I probably understand it. In fact, it is easy to understand by changing the wording, sub_6GHz, which is related to frequency. Generally, the frequency band of 450MHz-6GHz is defined as sub_6g; further investigation will reveal another term, millimeter wave. Generally, the frequency band of 30Ghz-300Ghz is defined as millimeter wave.

It can be found that the frequency of millimeter wave is higher than that of sub_6G. Using millimeter wave to transmit information, the rate will be faster, but the transmission distance is relatively short;

Considering practical applications, if you want to use a 5G network, you must build a 5G base station. If you choose millimeter wave, the speed is very fast, but the transmission distance is short, which requires the construction of more 5G base stations. If you use sub_6G, although the speed is not as fast as millimeter wave However, there are relatively few base stations built, and the construction and maintenance costs are greatly reduced, which is more conducive to the commercialization of 5G networks. At present, the three major operators in my country mainly promote sub_6G, so the current domestic 5G chips all support sub_6G.

The speed of 5G modules from different manufacturers will be different, so choose according to actual needs.
