Surprised that the total GDP of Suzhou has exceeded the 2 trillion mark!

Yesterday related media reported that the Suzhou municipal government announced that the total GDP of Suzhou in 2020 will exceed the 2 trillion mark.

It became the focus of media attention for a while. Many self-media people have written articles expressing their views on this matter, and the author also intends to say a few words. In my opinion, this is really exciting and good news.

1. This is a historic moment. In fact, the goal of Suzhou's GDP of over 2 trillion yuan should be achieved in 2019. In recent years, Suzhou's economic structure has been transforming, and its economic growth has slowed down. Due to the rapid growth of land prices and housing prices in Suzhou, and the increasing labor costs, some large labor-intensive foreign companies in the park have successively closed their factories in Suzhou and fled the city of Suzhou. In addition to the 331 actions taken by the Suzhou government in the previous years, a large number of low-income people were forced to leave Suzhou. Important adjustments were made to the population settlement policy at the end of 2016. The household purchase policy was cancelled and the point settlement policy was implemented. The threshold for migrant population settlement was greatly increased. Various reasons have caused Suzhou's economic growth to be weak in recent years, economic growth has become slower and slower, and the increase has become smaller and smaller, so that the total GDP of Suzhou in 2019 is only tens of billions of 2 trillion. With the outbreak of the epidemic in the spring of 2020, the author is also worried that the 2020 GDP of Suzhou will exceed 2 trillion and the goal of Jiangsu's GDP of over 10 trillion is estimated to be missed. Fortunately, in order to fight the epidemic, the Chinese government has adopted some effective measures and methods, and simply controlled the epidemic and defeated it. This has enabled the economy of all provinces in China to regain vitality in time. Since the second half of the year, all provinces except Hubei have basically achieved positive economic growth. Suzhou's economy also quickly turned to positive growth. At the end of 2020, the Suzhou Municipal Government has unprecedentedly increased its investment in attracting investment. It successfully cooperated with Internet giants such as Tencent and Huawei, and introduced these technology giants to Suzhou to establish R&D centers. After the scientific leadership of government departments and the joint efforts of the people and enterprises of Suzhou City, the highlight of Suzhou was finally won, and the total GDP finally exceeded the 2 trillion mark.

2. This is something that Suzhou people are proud of. The city’s GDP surpasses 2 trillion, which is not an easy task! Previously, only the four major first-tier cities and Chongqing's five mainland cities had total GDP exceeding the 2 trillion mark. These five cities are either municipalities directly under the central government, or national central cities or provincial capital cities. The political status of the cities is much higher than that of Suzhou, and the total population of these cities far exceeds that of Suzhou. Naturally, Chongqing has a resident population of more than 30 million, and Beijing and Shanghai have a resident population of more than 20 million. The permanent population of Guangzhou and Shenzhen is also one million more than Suzhou. With a permanent population of just over 10 million, Suzhou can create a GDP of more than 2 trillion. It cannot be said that this is a miracle, and it cannot be said that it is something that all Suzhou people are happy and proud of.

3. This is the time to let all prefecture-level cities across the country focus their attention. Suzhou is just an ordinary prefecture-level city, and its political status is not high. The country's preferential policy support it has received is very limited. So far there is no airport in Suzhou, and Suzhou has not been upgraded to a sub-provincial level. As the first prefecture-level city, Suzhou’s success is a benchmark and a model for prefecture-level cities with more digits. The success of Suzhou tells us that the political status of the city is not decisive. As long as we work hard, as long as government departments dare to innovate and forge ahead, it is entirely possible for ordinary prefecture-level cities to surpass provincial capitals or even to compete with municipalities.

4. This is an extremely embarrassing and depressing moment for Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province. The GDP of Suzhou, a prefecture-level city, exceeded RMB 2 trillion in 2020, far exceeding Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province, and Suzhou's GDP exceeded Nanjing's GDP by more than 500 billion. This is something that the provincial capital of Nanjing cannot sustain itself. After all, Nanjing occupies the best educational and medical resources in Jiangsu Province. Well-known colleges and universities in the province are concentrated in Nanjing, and the best hospitals above Class III are also concentrated in Nanjing. Nevertheless, the total GDP of Nanjing has been hovering around the top ten of the country's major cities, maintaining a relatively large gap with Suzhou. This is an embarrassing and depressing thing in the provincial capital city of Nanjing, but it is the most successful place in Jiangsu Province. It is precisely because Jiangsu Province is not the only provincial capital, but the relatively balanced economic development of various cities, Jiangsu Province can become the second province with a GDP exceeding 10 trillion. In fact, Jiangsu Province, with about 60% of the land area of Guangdong Province and about 75% of the population of Guangdong Province, has created more than 90% of Guangdong Province’s GDP. In terms of the quality and per capita GDP, Jiangsu Province is the real Chinese economy. The strongest province!

5. This is a depressing moment for many provincial capital cities other than Guangzhou. Even though the provincial capital cities have superior medical and educational resources, they still cannot surpass the prefecture-level city of Suzhou. With the exception of Nanjing, the capital city of Jiangsu, all other capital cities in the country except Guangzhou are far inferior to Suzhou in terms of economic aggregates. Even in star Internet celebrity cities such as Chengdu, Wuhan and Hangzhou, which have developed rapidly in recent years, their economic strength has been easily crushed by Suzhou. In 2020, the total GDP of Suzhou will exceed 2 trillion yuan, leaving cities such as Chengdu, Wuhan and Hangzhou far behind. This fact will once again make many Chengchu, Wuchu and Hangchu depressed, dissatisfied, and uncomfortable! In the age of power speaking, in the era of market economy, the GDP of a city is the hard power of a city, and the hard power is not enough. Even if the city's marketing is done well, it will not help.

The 2020 GDP of Suzhou City will break through the 2 trillion mark, which is exactly what the author is looking forward to, and even more so. I have to admit that the author is an out-and-out blow, but the author is not a mindless blow, but a rational blow based on the analysis and understanding of the strength of Suzhou. The total GDP of Suzhou, a prefecture-level city, has always been among the top in the country, and its per capita GDP is also in the forefront. This is Suzhou's undeniable and irrefutable hard core strength. It cannot be said that Suzhou is a veritable top student and top student among the big cities in the country. Therefore, I still maintain my forecast and optimistic view on the future of Suzhou in the past two years. Suzhou will be the fifth first-tier city in mainland China.
