CCID Data丨The cumulative total investment in my country's new display industry has exceeded 1.2 trillion yuan

As an important part of the 13th China (Hefei) International Household Appliances and Consumer Electronics Expo jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Anhui Provincial People’s Government, the first World Display Industry Conference was held on November 22— Held in Hefei on the 23rd. The theme of this conference is "Showing a Better Life". It is organized by the Hefei Municipal People's Government, Anhui Provincial Department of Economics and Information Technology, and China Electronics and Information Industry Development Research Institute. It is a global display industry with high specifications, large scale and strong influence. Grand event.

At this conference, Liu Wenqiang, vice president of China Electronics Information Industry Development Research Institute, released the "New Display Industry Development White Paper (2019)".

In 2018, China's new display revenue scale was about 355.3 billion yuan

The "White Paper" believes that in the past ten years, the new display industry has continued to expand in scale with the advent of a new round of technological revolution, and revenue has grown relatively fast, but entering 2018, the smartphone and TV markets have gradually transformed into stock competition At this stage, coupled with the increasing uncertainty of the global economy, although the global new display industry continues to grow in area, panel prices have fallen rapidly, and the overall market revenue has declined instead of increasing. In 2018, the total shipment area of the global new display industry was 21,600 square meters, a year-on-year increase of more than 8%, and the revenue scale was US$123.6 billion, showing a downward trend.

In the context of inventory competition, large size and flexible form have become the main driving forces of the current display product market. The average size of global TV panel shipments has increased rapidly in the past few years, such as folding mobile phones, curved watches, and roll-up TVs. Products have begun to be launched in the second half of 2019, and the market has responded very enthusiastically.

Driven by the market, the technical level of the display industry is constantly improving, and various technologies are competing to develop. Liquid crystal technology has not stopped progressing, OLED is accelerating, and emerging technologies are also gearing up. The new display industry in the future will be a competitive landscape where multiple technologies complement each other.

The "White Paper" pointed out that in recent years, the new display industry in mainland China has always maintained positive growth, and the overall growth rate has exceeded the global industry growth rate for many years. In 2018, the total revenue of China's new display industry was approximately 355.3 billion yuan, of which display panel revenue was 267.7 billion yuan, accounting for 27.4% of the global total. In the past five years, the compound annual growth rate of my country's new display industry was as high as 27%. The production line structure has been continuously improved, and the market competitiveness has been steadily improved. In 2018, relying on multiple TFT-LCD panel production lines to enter full production, China's LCD panel revenue and shipment area ranked first in the world.

In terms of industrial clusters, my country’s new display industry has formed the Bohai Rim with Beijing as the core, the Yangtze River Delta represented by Hefei, Shanghai, Nanjing and Kunshan, and Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Xiamen as representatives. The spatial layout of the four major industrial clusters in the Pearl River Delta region and the central and western regions represented by Chongqing, Chengdu and Wuhan. These four clusters have distinct characteristics and different advantages.

With the growth of the industrial scale, the technological level of my country's new display industry is also constantly improving. In the TFT-LCD field, the production capacity of oxide and low-temperature polysilicon TFT-LCD panels has further matured, and the manufacturing process level of ultra-high-definition and large-size panels has been significantly enhanced. The accumulated patents are close to 50,000, and overseas patents account for more than 20%. In the field of AMOLED, BOE provided Huawei with the world's first flexible panel for the folding screen 5G mobile phone Mate X. Chinese companies have already possessed a certain degree of international competitiveness in flexible display technology. On January 9, 2018, the National Printing and Flexible Display Innovation Center officially started construction, focusing on key common technologies in the new display industry, laying out cutting-edge core technologies, and effectively promoting the development of my country's new display industry.

Display becomes one of the most important "windows" in human-computer interaction

The "White Paper" comprehensively sorts out the development of the world and my country's new display industry from 2018 to 2019, and analyzes the industry's application direction, innovative development, investment and financing, policy environment, and key issues facing the industry.

From the perspective of industrial applications, the "White Paper" points out that with the rise of new technologies such as the Internet of Things, cloud computing, and big data, human society has entered the era of Internet of Everything. In this process, display is becoming the most important part of the human-computer interaction process. One of the "windows". The smartphone market has matured in recent years and competition has become increasingly fierce. Screens have become the focus of competition. Differentiated development is the focus of various mobile phone companies. The popularity of new technologies is accelerating. It took only 9 months for full-screen products to reach a penetration rate of over 50% in the mobile phone market. On this basis, the "Liu Haiping", "Water Drop Screen" and "Waterfall Screen" were also obtained. Mobile phone companies are enthusiastically sought after. Folding screens, as the next hot spot in industrial development, combine mobile phones and tablets into one, which not only greatly increases the scope of use of smart terminals, but will also become the direction that leads the industrial transformation. TV applications are one of the most weighted applications in the new display market, and are the target market for multiple display technologies. Judging from the current situation, high-definition and low-cost is the development direction of large-screen display technologies such as TV LCD, OLED, and laser. With the rise of industries such as smart cities, intelligent connected cars, and virtual reality, the application range of the new display industry has been further expanded, showing a diversified development pattern.

From the perspective of industrial investment and financing, Japan, South Korea and other countries are also accelerating investment in new display fields. Among them, OLED has become the focus of investment in various countries. In recent years, my country’s new display industry has shown an active investment strategy. As of October 2019, my country has put into operation 45 production lines and 6 production lines are under construction. The total investment of the entire industry has exceeded 1.2 trillion yuan. It is expected to be 2022. After the entire industry’s planned production lines are put into operation, the total production capacity will exceed 200 million square meters per year. In 2019, the construction speed of my country's new display industry production line has slowed down. In the first half of the year, there were basically no new planned production lines. Only in the second half of the year, there were some new flexible OLED production lines. In general, my country has shifted from the large-scale new stage At the completion and shipment stage, the production line production capacity previously invested in the next two years will gradually be opened, and my country will usher in a small peak in panel production capacity. The successive opening up of panel production capacity has brought huge benefits to upstream materials, and Chinese material companies continue to follow up.

From the perspective of the policy environment, the role of policies in promoting the development of the new display industry is very obvious. In recent years, the relevant state departments have successively issued a series of related policies to support the development of the panel industry, completed the top-level design, and through standardized layout and dynamic adjustment, has played an important role in guiding and promoting the high-quality development of my country's new display industry.

Four aspects to promote the development of new display industry

Regarding the future development of the new display industry, there are mainly the following four suggestions, from the four perspectives of technology direction, application direction, innovative development and high-quality development.

In terms of technology, suggestions are as follows: First, the innovation of ultra-high-definition display panels to accelerate the development and mass production of ultra-high-definition display devices. This is our strength and should be further strengthened. The second is to break through key technologies such as curved surfaces, folding, and flexibility, and accelerate the process of mass production of flexible AMOLED. In this regard, the commendable thing is that we are accelerating the narrowing of the gap, so we must work harder. The third is to take advantage of production capacity, develop emerging technologies with good contrast and excellent display effects, and push the industry to a high-quality competition track. This aspect is also our strength. Chinese companies have advantages in application innovation. The application production base and consumer market for new displays are here, so this aspect should be better played. The fourth is to focus on the research and reserve of emerging technologies, strengthen the patent and standard construction of new technologies such as Micro LED, and promote the realization of industrialization. This is the future of technology, and there must be enough attention and layout for forward-looking technology.

In terms of application, it is recommended: On the one hand, deepen the cooperation and exchanges between panel companies and terminal companies. This is very important. After all, a panel is a component, and the panel companies are far less sensitive to the market than terminal companies. Therefore, cooperation and exchanges are needed to develop innovative applications in forward-looking fields. Now it shows that the degree of entry into life is far from enough, especially in the middle and high-end consumer sector. This part of the transition is relatively slow, so it is necessary to conduct an in-depth analysis of consumer market demand to find growth points. On the other hand, for existing emerging fields, such as education and medical care, security monitoring, smart home, etc., the user experience must be further optimized. The other is to use major events or international competitions as a starting point to expand application scenarios and increase penetration.

In terms of innovation and development, it is recommended to explore innovative development paths that combine new displays with emerging technologies such as 5G, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and industrial Internet, integrate and promote each other, develop new applications, and create new markets.

In terms of high-quality development, it is recommended to open up two chains, namely horizontal and vertical. Horizontally, open up the new display ecological collaboration chain, accelerate the breakthrough of common and forward-looking technologies; vertically, open up the manufacturing supply chain from materials, equipment, components to terminals, encourage panel companies as the leader, and use market-oriented means to drive the development of upstream companies . Finally, it is necessary to carry out multi-level and all-round industrial cooperation, strengthen talent introduction and training, and build industrial clusters with international competitiveness.
