Boeing issued November 6 announcement , Jinnah Hosein appointed as vice president of software engineering.
Jinnah Hosein will lead a new, centralized engineering department to support the development and delivery of software embedded in Boeing products and services. Boeing said that this new appointment will increase Boeing's attention to the entire enterprise software engineering.
This new appointment has attracted widespread attention because Boeing has suffered huge losses in the past due to bad software. In May last year, Boeing admitted for the first time that the 737 MAX flight simulator software had defects. Both the Singapore Lion Air crash in October 2018 and the Ethiopian Airlines flight crash in March 2019 were caused by the crash of the 737 MAX, which resulted in a total of 346 deaths.
At the beginning of this year, the new software test of the 737 MAX, which was scheduled to go around , still had defects, and the cockpit indicator light of the stabilizer trim system was turned on incorrectly.
In addition, software testing problems also caused the first flight of Boeing's manned spacecraft to fail . On February 28, Boeing admitted that the company's procedures for testing the software system of the manned spacecraft interplanetary aircraft had serious flaws, and now plans to modify the test procedures. Before the first flight, Boeing did not conduct rigorous and seamless simulation tests on the spacecraft software (covering the entire process from launch, docking to the International Space Station, and landing).
On the contrary, SpaceX's spacecraft experiment, which was also awarded a NASA contract with Boeing, was relatively smooth.
Jinnah Hosein, Boeing’s newly appointed vice president of software engineering, also served at SpaceX, leading the software development of Falcon, Falcon Heavy, Dragon, Crew Dragon and other aircraft, and assisted in the development of autonomous driving software at Tesla. Jinnah Hosein also served as Google’s director of cloud network software engineering and was one of the original members of Google’s site reliability engineering team.
Next, Jinnah Hosein will lead the deployment of Boeing's software engineering strategy, including the provision of functions, technologies, processes, and safe and accurate systems.
