On November 4th, the latest version of Edge in the Dev Channel of Microsoft Edge has been updated to 88.0.685.3. Microsoft released the first Edge Dev Channel version for Linux in October, supporting Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora and openSUSE distributions.

The new version of 88.0.685.3 brings two new features including improvements to the Linux platform:

  • Added support for pre-rendered new tab pages on Linux.
  • Added Mac support for management policies to configure "friendly URL format".

Reliability improvements include:

  • Fixed an issue where Edge could not be opened and gave an error message about the wrong image or missing msedge.dll.
  • Fixed a crash when favorite synchronization is enabled.
  • Fixed an issue where certain browser configuration file names caused Edge to crash at startup.
  • Fixed a crash when closing the browser.

There are also known issues including:

  • Users of certain ad blocking extensions may experience playback errors on YouTube. The solution is to temporarily disable the extension to allow playback to continue.
  • Encountered a tab and extension crash with a STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH error. The cause of the error is outdated security or antivirus software provided by vendors such as Symantec. In this case, update the software to fix it.
