The author of core-js, Denis Pushkarev, in addition to writing programs, his hobby is motorcycle racing. Not long ago, he was injured and killed when driving a motorcycle into a person. According to the laws of the Russian Federation, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison, deprived of the right to drive for 2 years, and fined 1.38 million rubles.
core-js is one of the most popular libraries on npm, with 105M downloads per month, which is more than 100 million. A total of 19134 libraries depend on core-js.

Now react/vue/angular, webpack, babel, core-js, etc. are already front-end infrastructures, but core-js's presence is too weak. The number of downloads of core-js on npm is several times more than the sum of react/vue/angular. However, almost all front-end developers have heard of the three major frameworks even if they have not used them. As for core-js, it is embarrassing. Many front-end developers with two or three years of experience have not necessarily heard of this library.
Regarding the author's method of delivering advertisements during postintall, there is also a lot of controversy in this area.
The author once posted an article in January 2020 that he might go to jail, and most developers felt that this was an angry statement from the author. But since the end of last year, the author's attitude towards the maintenance of this library has not been very positive. Now the author really goes to jail.
The last official version of core-js was released on January 13, 2020, and was personally released by Pushkarev. It can be seen from the github submission record that slowcheetah has the write permission of the warehouse.
If slowcheetah can release the next version in a few days, core-js can still fix bugs and add new features while Pushkarev is serving his sentence.
