Again! Google and Microsoft's browser interoperability

(Star those things about programmers)

On January 16, 2020, the  official version of Chromium Core's Edge browser was launched .

Prior to this, there were no less than 10 browsers based on Chromium. The well-known ones are: Chrome, Opera, Brave, Vivaldi, Comodo Dragon, Yandex, and they can all download and install extensions from the Chrome Web Store.

Google recommends Microsoft Edge users switch to Chrome

Microsoft Edge can also access the Chrome extension store. However, Edge users will encounter such a prompt:

Goolge recommends switching to Chrome to use extensions securely.

To use the extension safely, Google recommends that you switch to Chrome.

There is also a Chrome download portal.

According to sources familiar with the matter cited by PCWorld, in Chrome, if a plug-in is deemed insecure for some reason, the Chrome team can remotely disable it. Google cannot remotely disable the same plugin in Edge, so it is recommended to switch to Chrome.

However, Google did not issue the same warning to users of Opera, which is also based on Chromium. Why does Edge have this prompt, but Opera does not. Regarding this issue, foreign media asked a Google representative, but the other party did not comment.

Not to be indecent

Google is "intimidating" users, and Microsoft is doing the same.

When Edge users try to add a Chrome extension, there will be a pop-up warning that the extension installed from a source other than the Microsoft Store is unverified and may affect browser performance.

In fact, no matter where the extension comes from, it may affect browser performance.

If you search for "Chrome Web Store" on the Bing search engine, Microsoft will insert its own Edge browser advertisement before the organic search results.

In addition, when searching for "Chrome" in Bing, the same is true.

Both Google and Microsoft are doing what they think is the right thing. But they use pop-up warning messages to "pinch each other", which may confuse the audience and annoy both Chrome and Edge users.
