Product thinking-thinking about Evernote charges

It’s been a long time since I logged in to Evernote. Remember that the last time I logged in was the summer of 2019. Today, there are some places that I want to save to the network storage. When I am ready to use, open Evernote and prepare to open a new file according to my previous usage habits. Ready to enter content, the following interface prompt pops up:

This indicates that you need to pay for the upgrade to continue writing new files, exit and reopen, and you can view the contents of the previous files, but you cannot create new files.

I checked other similar ones online, such as Youdaoyun Note and Weizhi Note, etc., all have to pay to use the note recording function, and there are also posts on the Internet saying that you must pay to upgrade to use it. This reminds me of the rise in 2016 The thought of paying for knowledge. Up to now, free office software and writing software are no longer free, etc. It seems that the IT industry chain will have the thought and habit of paying for use. Everyone must pay for all kinds of work-related software.

This matter, in the long run, has more advantages than disadvantages:

1. From the cost point of view, I think the cost of Youdaoyun and Evernote is about 8 yuan a month, which is less than 100 yuan a year. The cost is not expensive, only 5 packs of cigarettes.

2. From the product point of view, it can enable tool software developers to gain benefits, continue to improve the functions of tool software, provide more and more satisfactory services to paying users, and continue to improve the quality of software and accelerate product update iterations upgrade.

But what makes me think deeply is that before 360 free antivirus appeared, the antivirus software on the market was charged for 100 to 200 yuan per year. Since 360 free software came out, they have basically been cold. Anti-virus software can no longer be profitable and has started to turn in other directions. As the epidemic has passed, everyone’s income has decreased, increasing revenue and reducing expenditures. Will there be a 360 in the future for tools such as notepads to allow everyone to switch doors? Wait and see.
