How to use dem data after downloading? View contour lines, terrain rendering, terrain clipping tutorials

How to use Dem data after downloading? Many people use dem to view the terrain. This article will explain to you how to view contour topographic maps, terrain rendering, and cutting according to administrative divisions after downloading dem data.

If you don’t have DEM data yet, I recommend viewing this article I wrote on CSDN:

National DEM download tutorial 90m, 30m, 12.5m and 5m DEM data with various accuracy

View contour maps

With DEM, you can drag DEM data into Global Mapper to load it.

GlobalMapper

Drag the dem data file directly to load it:

Load DEM data

The editor loaded the 90-meter Sichuan dem data.

Then use the generate contour function in the menu to view the contour.

Dem terrain rendering

Someone will say, I loaded it in, how is the color different from yours? In fact, this is a problem of terrain rendering. Because the editor used custom terrain rendering settings and set different colors, it looks different from the colors loaded under the default settings.
For example, if I change a setting, it has a different effect. As shown below:

So, how do you customize the settings using GlobalMapper terrain rendering?
In the drop-down menu, select "Add custom rendering shading".

The first step is to add a data with a height of 0 meters.

When choosing the color, 0 meters high is the plain. It is recommended to choose a green or cyan that is closer to the actual color of the plain.

The effect after selection is as follows:

Then start adding a new height, such as 500 meters.

For a height of 500 meters, I chose a khaki.

Then set the height settings of 1000 meters, 2000 meters, 3000 meters, 4000 meters, 5000 meters, -100 meters, and -500 meters. Of course, according to different regions and different needs, the setting height should be different. For example, most of Jiangsu Province is 0 meters above sea level. If the height setting interval is too large, it is impossible to see at all, so the setting interval must be set. Set it smaller. There are no mountains in Jiangsu Province, so it is not necessary to set it above 2000 meters.
The picture below is my newly set terrain rendering of Jiangsu. After rendering, the terrain of Jiangsu still looks very flat. There are only some hills in the southwest.

Tailored according to administrative divisions

Due to the length of the space, the explanation will be continued in the next part.
