Repmgr 5.1 released, PostgreSQL cluster replication management and failover tool

repmgr 5.1 is released. repmgr is a tool for PostgreSQL server cluster replication management and failover. It expands the built-in hot-standby capability of PostgreSQL, and can set up hot backup servers, monitor replication and perform management tasks (failover, manual switching, etc.).

This version contains several enhancements.

repmgr 5.1 introduces an important compatibility change for repmgr alternate clones: the --recovery-conf-only option has been updated to --replication-conf-only.

In addition, repmgr 5.1 eliminates the requirement that the repmgr user is a database super user as much as possible. In theory, repmgr can be run with standard database users used to manage the repmgr database, as well as individual replication users used to manage replication connections (and replication slots). However, some operations will still require superuser privileges, such as issuing CHECKPOINT as part of the switchover operation; in this case, the effective superuser should be provided with the -S /-superuser option.
