VMware Empowers Enterprises to Harness the Power of Generative AI

At the VMware Explore 2023 conference on August 23  , VMware (NYSE: VMW) launched a new Private AI product to help enterprises adopt generative AI and tap the value of trusted data. Private AI  is an architectural solution that can unlock the business benefits of AI and meet the actual privacy and compliance needs of enterprises.

In order to enable enterprises to realize Private AI and promote a new wave of AI applications, VMware released:

  • VMware Private AI Foundation with NVIDIA: Expand the strategic cooperation between the two parties to help enterprises using VMware cloud infrastructure prepare for the arrival of the AI era.

  • VMware Private AI Reference Architecture for Open Source: Helps customers achieve desired AI outcomes by supporting current and future state-of-the-art open source software (OSS) technologies.

VMware Private AI deploys computing power and AI models to places where enterprises create, process and use enterprise data, including public clouds, enterprise data centers, edges, and more. With these new offerings, VMware helps customers combine the flexibility and control they need to power the next generation of AI-driven applications. These applications will dramatically increase employee productivity, drive transformation of key business functions, and generate economic benefits. Generative AI could boost the global economy by as much as $4.4 trillion per year, according to McKinsey forecasts.

Multi-cloud environments that make highly distributed private data more accessible are the foundation of this new class of AI-driven applications. VMware's multi-cloud approach provides more choice and flexibility for enterprises to build AI models on it, customize these models with the enterprise's private data, and use these models, while also achieving the desired results in any environment. Security and resilience.

Raghu Raghuram, CEO of VMware, said: "Organizations can only realize the huge potential of generative AI if they can protect data privacy and minimize intellectual property risks when training, customizing and serving AI models. VMware Private AI will help customers fully realize the potential of AI. Leverage their trusted data to build and run AI models quickly and more securely in multi-cloud environments."

Today, businesses face difficult choices when using generative AI. While they can use public AI models to build their own generative AI applications, the attendant risks are data exposure and uncertain sources of training. They can also try to "do it yourself", but this method is neither economical nor takes a long time to realize value. To solve this problem, VMware AI Labs developed VMware Private AI.

"In the beginning, AI was built and designed by some data scientists for the convenience of other data scientists," said Chris Wolf, vice president of VMware AI Labs. With the launch of the new VMware Private AI product, VMware is making the choice of computing and AI models Get closer to the data so that the future of AI works for everyone in the enterprise. From software development and marketing content generation to customer service tasks and insights from legal documents, our Private AI approach can bring a variety of enterprise use cases benefit."

VMware Private AI Foundation with NVIDIA to Prepare Enterprises for AI Adoption

VMware Private AI Foundation with NVIDIA consists of an integrated set of AI tools that enable enterprises to cost-effectively run models trained on their private data and enable deployment of these models in the data center, leading public clouds and at the edge. VMware Private AI Foundation with NVIDIA integrates the VMware Private AI architecture built on VMware Cloud Foundation with NVIDIA AI Enterprise software and accelerated computing. This turnkey offering will provide customers with custom models and the accelerated computing infrastructure and cloud infrastructure software needed to run generative AI applications such as intelligent chatbots, assistants, search and summarization. VMware Private AI Foundation with NVIDIA will be supported by Dell, HPE and Lenovo.

A connected and open ecosystem supports clients' AI strategies

VMware Private AI Reference Architecture for Open Source integrates innovative open source software technologies to provide an open reference architecture for building and running open source software models on VMware Cloud Foundation. At the VMware Explore conference, VMware demonstrated its cooperation with leading companies in the entire AI value chain:

Anyscale: VMware is bringing the popular open source Ray unified computing framework to the VMware Cloud environment. Ray on VMware Cloud Foundation enables data scientists and MLOps engineers to more easily scale AI and Python workloads by leveraging their current computing footprint instead of the default public cloud for ML workloads.

Domino Data Lab: VMware, Domino Data Lab and NVIDIA have partnered to deliver a unified analytics, data science and infrastructure platform optimized, validated and supported, and purpose-built for deploying AI/ML in the financial services industry.

Global system integrators: VMware is working with leading global system integrators such as Wipro and HCL to help customers take advantage of Private AI by building and delivering turnkey solutions that combine VMware Cloud with AI partner ecosystem solutions.

Hugging Face: At today's VMware Explore conference, VMware and Hugging Face jointly released SafeCoder, a complete commercial code assistant solution for enterprises, including services, software and support. VMware is using SafeCoder internally and has published a reference architecture with code samples to provide the fastest time to value for customers deploying and running SafeCoder on VMware infrastructure.

Intel: VMware vSphere/vSAN 8 and Tanzu are being optimized with Intel's AI software suite to take advantage of the new built-in AI accelerators on the latest 4th generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors.

Additionally, VMware announced a new VMware AI Ready program that will provide ISVs with the tools and resources they need to validate and certify products on the VMware Private AI reference architecture. The program will be open to ISVs focused on ML and LLM Ops, data and feature engineering, AI development tools, and embedded AI applications. The program is expected to go live by the end of 2023.

Intelligent Assist brings generative AI to VMware multicloud offerings

Intelligent Assist from VMware is a series of generative AI-based solutions trained using VMware's proprietary data that can simplify and automate all aspects of enterprise IT in the multi-cloud era. Intelligent Assist capabilities will be built on VMware Private AI, seamlessly extending the investments enterprises have made in VMware Cross-Cloud Services. VMware products that feature Intelligent Assist include:

VMware  Tanzu with Intelligent Assist (Technology Preview) will allow users to conversationally request and refine changes to their enterprise cloud infrastructure, addressing the challenges of multi-cloud visibility and configuration.

·  Workspace ONE with Intelligent Assist (Technical Preview) will help users create high-quality scripts using natural language prompts for a faster and more efficient scripting experience.

·  NSX+ with Intelligent Assist (Technology Preview) will enable security analysts to quickly and accurately correlate security findings and effectively remediate threats.

Customer and Partner Quotes

"We're building Las Vegas into a world-class city of the future," said Michael Sherwood, Chief Innovation and Technology Officer, City of Las Vegas. "In doing so, we're using generative AI to further advance public safety, citizen engagement and innovation in transportation. VMware is an important part of our multi-cloud infrastructure on which these generative AI projects are built. Faced with growing demands and limited resources, we rely heavily on VMware to provide Real-time data analysis and scalable solutions to improve outcomes for the benefit of residents and visitors."

“As a multi-cloud imaging and IoT company, one of the biggest challenges we face with generative AI is ensuring data accuracy, Privacy and security. We require Lexmark’s team of data scientists to protect our proprietary data while having a flexible and innovative infrastructure. Partnering with VMware means we are confident that our AI projects can scale seamlessly and achieve Trust, so our people can focus on delivering business value to customers and helping them solve problems."

An open-source Python framework developed by Anyscale, the Ray machine learning project is widely adopted. Robert Nishihara, co-founder and CEO of the company, said: "VMware and its customers are some of the most innovative companies wondering how to incorporate AI into their products. But due to the rapid pace of this emerging field As the world evolves, companies are struggling to maintain their leadership in AI while rapidly scaling, productizing, and iterating. Because Ray can run anywhere from cloud providers, on-premises, on laptops, and VMware's customers around the world, so this partnership is a natural fit to make it easier for companies to accelerate their business with generative AI.”
