At present, the digitization of ancient books is facing difficulties such as high technical difficulty, large funding gap, and shortage of talents. Cloud computing and artificial intelligence technology can efficiently realize the productization, visualization, and platformization of ancient books, which not only takes its preservation form to a new level, but also effectively reduces the reading threshold for users.
The Serverless Roundtable Party specially invited Song Jie, CEO of Shanghai Huiyou Culture, Nie Dapeng and Wang Renda, senior technical experts of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, to talk about how Serverless can make cultural ancient books come alive from the perspective of ancient book restoration and industry perspectives.
It is understood that Song Jie has been paying attention to the digitization process of ancient books, and found that there are a series of problems in the digitization process of ancient books, such as imperfect standards, more community content, and incomplete documents.
With the help of Alibaba Cloud's serverless product technology, the first project Song Jie completed was the cooperation with Fudan University. Mr. Lin, a collector of prints in Hong Kong, donated a large number of digital printed collections (hundreds of thousands of pictures) to the Special Collections Center of Fudan University Library. Initially, the Special Collections Center of Fudan University Library hoped to be in line with the general standards of foreign special collections platforms. The IIIF standard was used to process this batch of precious digital printed and Tibetan images. Later, after exchanges between the two parties, it was decided to use Alibaba Cloud Function Computing to realize it. The success of the Fudan Printing and Tibet project is also the first time in China to apply the IIIF standard to the realization and operation of a large-scale website.
With the help of Alibaba Cloud's serverless products , electronic photos of precious books can be "online with one click". The previous 100 photos needed to be processed in 10 days, but with the help of Alibaba Cloud's serverless products, they can be processed in one day. Song Jie believes that serverless function computing has unique advantages such as audio and video transcoding, which can accelerate the digitization of ancient books.
