Firefox Voice is a new experiment of Mozilla, has just released a Beta version. The experiment will voice controls introduced Firefox Web browser, currently available only in the desktop version of Firefox.
Interested users can access Firefox Voice Campaign website to join the beta and install Firefox Voice extensions in Firefox Web browser.
The extension requires more permissions, you'll be asked whether to allow Firefox Voice collect voice recording and provides its research to Mozilla, the user can allow or deny the request. It should be noted, Firefox Voice uses the Google cloud voice services. Any voice commands will be sent to Google services. However, Mozilla said Google will not record these commands.
In fact, Firefox Voice voice control is not the first attempt to introduce Firefox. Mozilla experiment had been started in 2017 a program called "Voice Fill" in order to be able to "talk" with the search engines.
Currently Firefox Voice is still in the early stages of development, you can use it to do these basic issues:
- Search in the network, such as "New York's Japanese restaurant search" or "find lasagna recipe";
- Search for a particular site, such as "in my Gmail search for event tickets XYZ", "search on MDN CSS Grid";
- Go to website;
- Play music or video;
- Read the page;
- Browser controls, such as "off-label", "open a new tab";
- Clipboard activities, such as "Copy title", "Copy link" or "Paste";
- Translation, such as "this web page translation into German."
- And more.
Firefox Voice has the support of many voice commands. Because the development is still in progress, the service may be more breakthroughs in the future.
However, Firefox Voice is currently only available in English. Firefox Voice icon in the address bar can be activated for use.
