Mozilla restricts Pocket to Firefox accounts only

Mozilla announced in a blog : In the future, its Pocket application can only be logged in with a Firefox account.

Pocket is a free commercial service that allows users to save, categorize, read and listen to articles found on the web. Premium users also get an ad-free experience, full-text search options, and more. Pocket also includes discovery and recommendation features.

Pocket has been part of the Mozilla family of products since it was acquired in 2017.

Previous Pocket users had four sign-up options: they could use a Firefox account or create one, sign in with an Apple/Google account, or sign up with another email address. But the option to log in with a third-party account will be removed in the coming months, leaving Firefox Accounts as the only option.

Starting July 11, 2023, Pocket users will be prompted to switch to a Firefox account. And after August 15, 2023, only Firefox Accounts will be able to log in.

Mozilla has released a detailed QA document in response to user questions , which explains in detail why it is restricted to log in only to Firefox, and how the content of Apple/Google accounts is migrated to Firefox accounts.
