By default, 80% of the Android application is using encrypted traffic

Google side said that as of October 2019, four out of five (80%) can Android applications downloaded through the official Play Store is encrypted using HTTPS their network traffic. For direct application for Android 9, and the number is even higher, reaching 90%. This means that traffic entering or leaving one of these applications is encrypted, a third party can not intercept or read.

Google is expected that this figure will rise in the coming years, mainly due to the company since 2016 has been gradually introduced and implemented a series of measures. These include a  warning IDE tool and Google Play developer dashboard .

It is reported that since 2017, Google has been pushing Android developers to encrypt traffic into their applications in order to provide better security and privacy in the application to communicate over the Internet or a network. 

From Android 2016 year 7 start, Google introduced a network security configuration file that allows application developers choose not to use plaintext when performing network communications. In Android 2018 released in 9, Google has taken further measures to make all applications to version Android 9 or higher are targeted will automatically use the default policy to prevent applications that use unencrypted traffic.

It is worth mentioning that, in terms of application developers to implement HTTPS, Google is much better than Apple. June 2019 released a report found that only a third of the iOS application is using ATS, which is a technique for network traffic encryption application for iOS.

In addition to the application manufacturer Android, Google also successfully promoted the site uses HTTPS instead of HTTP protocol vulnerable.

According to the company's transparency report , HTTPS Chrome now in usage is between 85% and 95%, depending on the platform.

For example, now all sites loaded in Chrome for Android, 89% were loaded via HTTPS. On the Windows version of Chrome, the figure is 84%.

The Firefox aspects can also see a similar situation, the organization recently reported its own milestone, as early as September, the first time Firefox has over HTTPS  loaded more than 80% of all pages .
