Dynamic routing and static routing

Dynamic routing protocols instrument

Dynamic routing protocols generate and maintain the required forwarding engine routing table by exchanging routing information. When the network topology changes dynamically routing protocols can automatically update the routing table, and is responsible for determining the optimal data transmission path.

effect

The role of dynamic routing protocols are the following three points:
(1) maintain routing information.
(2) establish a routing table.
(3) determine the best route.

Advantages and disadvantages
Dynamic routing protocol advantages:
(1) can automatically adapt to changes in network status.
(2) maintain routing information automatically without the need to participate in the network administrator.
Dynamic routing protocols Cons:
(1) the need to exchange routing information with each other, so that system resources and network bandwidth.
(2) less secure than static routes.
In the complex network environment redundant connections, a suitable dynamic routing protocol. In the dynamic routing protocol, the destination network is reachable depending on the network status.

Static Routing

Static Routing (English: Static routing), one kind of routing way, routing entries (routing entry) by the manual configuration, rather than dynamic decision. And dynamic routing , static routes are fixed and will not change, even if network conditions have changed or re-configuration. In general, static routing by the network administrator by-added routing table .

advantage

Another benefit of using static routing is that network security high security. Dynamic routing as required router exchanged frequently between the respective routing table , the routing table of analysis can reveal the network topology and network address information and the like. Therefore, the network for security reasons also can configure static routes. Do not take up network bandwidth, because no static routing update traffic.

Shortcoming

Large and complex network environments generally should not use static routing. On the one hand, the network administrator is difficult to fully understand the entire network topology ; on the other hand, when the network topology and link state changes, the router static routing information in a wide range of needs adjustment, the difficulty of this work and complexity is very high. When a change occurs in the network or network failure, it can not be rerouted, the route is likely to fail.
