RMAN general concepts
When we use RMAN backup and recovery of Oracle data management, we will often encounter some common concepts to be explained here. The main target database, RMAN client, flashback area, media management, recovery catalog.
Target database:
When a database backup using RMAN, RMAN target database is to use the tool to back up and restore the database that we want to back up the object.
RMAN client:
When using RMAN for data backup tool, the premise is to use a computer or server to have RMAN client.
Under normal circumstances, when the Oracle database is installed, the default installation of the RMAN client, because this is the official recommended Oracle backup tool. Usually installed in the directory under the Oracle installation directory.
Flashback District:
After Oracle10g concept flashback area, flashback area (Flash Recovery Area) is an area on the disk, backup and restore some related files, using storage and database flashback area can be user-friendly backup and restore databases.
Media Management:
Media management device commonly referred to as SBT (System Backup to Tape) apparatus, i.e. the database backup to tape. RMAN media manager through the back up data to tape, the media manager is typically provided by third party software vendors. It data stream transmitted from the data block corresponding to the process RMAN channels tape, a data transmission intermediary.
Recovery catalog:
Recovery catalog (Recovery Catalog) is an independent database for storing backup target database. Can be stored in a target database, it can also be multiple.
