(1) If the first sound is [i], [aɪ], [eɪ], or [ɔɪ], add a Y sound [j] to connect:

[i]: [ɔɪ]: [aɪ]: [eɪ]:

 

for example:

the apple [ði‿ˈjæ pәl]
toy airplane [tɔɪ‿ˈjɛәɹ pleɪn]
my uncle [maɪ‿ˈjʌŋ kәl]
say it [seɪ‿jɪt]

He is happy
She ate a burger
That boy is hungry

 

(2) If the first sound is [u], [aʊ], [oʊ], or [ju] add a W sound [w] to connect:

[U] [aʊ] [oʊ] [you]:

 

for example:

blue automobile [blu‿ˈwɔdәmәbil]
how about [haʊ‿wәˈbaʊt]
slow animal [sloʊ‿ˈwæ nә mәl]
few others [fju‿ˈwʌð әɹz]

(3) In all other cases, just connect the vowel sounds, without a glide consonant.
