[TechWeb] Recently, the US market research firm IC Insights released a report statistical data chip market, according to statistics show that in 2018 the US chip companies still dominate the overall chip market, global market share accounting for more than 50%. US fabless chip companies accounted for 68% of global market share, while the United States has fabless chip companies accounted for 46% of global market share, both total market share of 52%.
According to IC Insight published data sheets, so far, mainland China and Taiwan region of China in the global market share fabless semiconductor enhance the great magnitude, respectively, 13% and 16%, but the IDM (Integrated Device Manufacturer) market share is small, China Taiwan region of 2%, while China is less than 1%. At the same time, such as Japan, Europe and other regions in the semiconductor industry that has both IDM fabless semiconductor manufacturers are still below 10%. South Korea is in the IDM vendors worldwide market share of 37%, 46% from the United States of difference of only 9%, but South Korea's fabless semiconductor share is very small, less than 1%.
IC Insights analysis showed that Korea and Japan in the IC design industry performance is weak, but the mainland and Taiwan IC design companies in the industry accounted for about two-digit market share, but very low in the IDM market share, thus ranking at the disadvantage. Overall, the US-based company benefited IDM, IC design factory performance balanced, strong, dominant position and therefore has a leading IC market in 2018.
