Domestic and foreign open source foundations reach cooperation based on OpenHarmony's open source platform Oniro

The Open Atom Open Source Foundation announced a formal cooperation agreement with the Eclipse Foundation 's OpenHarmony-based open source project Oniro .

It is said that this signing of the Open Atom Open Source Foundation has created two firsts. First , it is the first time in the history of open source that the two foundations have jointly developed an open source ecosystem through code, brand, IP, certification, etc., providing the open source industry with A new paradigm of cooperation explores a new development paradigm for open source global cooperation. Second, it is the first time that a domestic open source foundation has completed a cooperation contract with an overseas foundation. Both parties will leverage their respective advantages in technical projects, developer ecology, and marketing activities to jointly promote the development of open source projects around the world.

Oniro is dedicated to developing a vendor-neutral open source operating system (OS) platform . The Oniro project is based on a collaboration between two global open source foundations: the Eclipse Foundation and the OpenAtom Foundation. Oniro leverages the solid foundation of OpenHarmony, an open source project run by the OpenAtom Foundation, to build an operating system platform known for its versatility on a variety of smart devices.

According to reports, Oniro prioritizes seamless interoperability, modularity and visually appealing user interfaces – providing a base for technologies and applications across industries including consumer electronics, home appliances, industrial IoT devices, smart home and multimedia. .

They achieve these goals through a series of enhancements, including the adoption of frameworks such as React Native and system-level operating system components such as the Servo web engine.

The official introduction to Oniro’s architecture diagram is as follows:

  • Eclipse Theia is used to simplify application development and enhance development workflow.
  • React Native extends the usability of existing applications and ecosystems based on OpenHarmony.
  • By using the Rust programming language, especially the combination with the Servo Web engine, the security of the entire system is enhanced.
  • The introduction of frameworks such as Eclipse Kanto and Matter in the future will enable the integration of more AIoT and smart home use cases.
