1 Virtual machine installation VM Fusion

Go to the official website to download VM Fusion

What I have here is the M2 chip, and I chose version 13. You can download the corresponding version according to your mac system.

After the download is completed, the next step is no brainer. VMFusion is free for individuals to use. Just go to the official website and search. (Or just google search for a key if you don’t want the trouble)

2 Download and install kali

2.1 Configure the basic configuration of the virtual machine (iso image, etc.)

Visit kali official website and download kali version

For students with slow network, you can download the torrent, then copy it to Thunder, and download it this way

For students with good Internet connections, you can choose to download the iso directly

After downloading the kali iso image, open VM Fusion and directly drag the kali iso image onto the page.
Because I directly installed kali 2023 (based on debian12), I directly chose debian12.x

Then click Continue. Depending on your computer configuration, you can give Kali different memory, CPU, or modify the network configuration. I directly used NAT mode (Network Address Translation) here, and then click Finish to save the Kali virtual machine in the location you want to save. folder

The Kali virtual machine at this time is just VMware virtualized hardware installed by us with various customized hardware sizes. Next, we install the Kali operating system based on these virtual hardware.

Enter the installation page, press and hold control+commandto release the mouse from VM Fusion

If you find that VM Fusion appears with the following page:

Check whether it is your own iso image download error. If it is a mac, the iso file of kali should be arm, not amd64.

Select graphical installation, then enter to confirm

2.2 Enter the installation page (configure username and password, etc.)

I choose Chinese as the language (choose according to your own needs), click continue, choose China as the region, and choose Chinese as the keyboard.
Entering the kali system initialization phase
Set virtual machine hostname
Set domain name

If you only install one kali, enter anything here, or enter xxx.com. Just enter according to the prompts.

5. Add ordinary users

6. Disk partitioning

Select the partition type for the system disk of this Kali system, because we are experimenting and do not need to do LVM for this system disk. So just choose to use the entire disk

Select the hard drive we need to install the Kali system on. When we initialized just now, we only added a 20G hard drive, so only one is shown here.

Click Continue and choose to place all files on the same partition

Wait for the system to complete the installation
Choose basic software
Wait for the installation to complete, click Continue to restart Kali
Enter your username and password to log in.

Try to see if you can connect to the external network:

3 tips

3.1 Change root password

The default user password is kali/kali

passwd root
