On September 27, Times Higher Education (THE) released the results of the 2024 World University Rankings. This year, 1,904 universities from 108 countries and regions are on the list, 105 more than last year. The University of Oxford in the UK retains its top spot for the eighth consecutive year. Stanford University in the United States ranks second in the world, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology ranks third .
Universities in the top 10 include Harvard University, University of Cambridge, Princeton University, California Institute of Technology, Imperial College London, University of California, Berkeley, and Yale University.
In addition, the universities that entered the top 20 are ETH Zurich, Tsinghua University, University of Chicago, Peking University, Johns Hopkins University, University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University, University of California, Los Angeles, National University of Singapore and Cornell University.
Among the universities shortlisted for the Times Higher Education World University Rankings this year, a total of 86 universities from mainland China are on the list, ranking fifth among the countries/regions in terms of number of universities on the list.
Mainland China's universities are once again moving towards the top ten in the world. Tsinghua University ranks first in Asia in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. It is also ranked first among Chinese universities and 12th in the world. Peking University follows closely behind, ranking first in the world. 14th, both entering the top 15 in the world ; Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Fudan University entered the top 50 in the world ; Zhejiang University, University of Science and Technology of China, and Nanjing University entered the top 100 in the world.
In addition, Sichuan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Beijing Normal University and Tongji University entered the top 200 world universities.

According to reports, the 2024 Times Higher Education World University Rankings are divided into 18 performance indicators from five aspects: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry.
